Dashes

Before this gets moved to general cars.

I like the dash in a 3 Series BMW especially with it angled towards the driver. Maybe not the quality of Audi dashes but it just seemed to work.

If quality was the only watch word then Audi A4 dash was great if a little bland.

A TT has to be one of the best as well. The dash in an LS430 is great aswell. The satnav screen and the way it integrates everything is fantastic, oh and the way the vents move the air around the cabin, very clever. .. oh I don't know driven far to many to have an ultimate number 1.

Elise S1. Stack Dials. Blue backlighting. 320mm Nardi steering wheel. Small alloy knobs for basic heater and windscreen vents. The S2 has very functional 'gutter' bin underneath for storage. Back on the S1, delicate control stalks, PSA sourced I believe. Basic push buttons on right of wheel. No stereo. Elise is for driving after all. No bullshit. Just raw extruded aluminium.

Like the quality of thr A4 dash, but for clarity and simple elegance (with widescreen TV fitted anyway) I like the e46 3 series layout. The New BMW interiors are awful, BMW always used to be driver focused, now they move to slabs while Audi starts to move the other way.

I love Alfa's cowled instruments too, and their leather seats look superb.

My A4Q.

It was a "special" build and had no chrome on it anywhere other than the roundels and grill surround. The dash was an unrelieved dark grey/black with clear white markings during the daylight.

At night however, it went all blood red backlighting (including the speedo and tacho) across the binnacle and the centre console and door/window switch gear. 169144-ok.gif
