Markallain
I am getting the message service now each time I start up. The car has not done enough miles to warrant a service yet. The dealer has said "this can be turned off". Can someone explain the basics of VW service schedules to me. I've seen mention of variable servicing before but I'm not sure what this is. Can someone please explain the options?
R32North
Two Options a) Fixed, usually every 10,000 miles or 12 months b) Variable, usually 18,000 (sometimes 19,000) but as the name suggests is varies and can come up sooner if you drive hard. I'm on variable and have done 14.7k. I've got 900 miles to my service which mean I'll hit the mark at 15.6k. thats 2.4k miles before it should..... have I been driving it hard then, what an R32 and moi, never Anyway, if you're on the wring service schedule then yes VAG.com tool can be used to reset this. Go to dealer and ask them whats up. BTW how many miles have you done?
Markallain
Thanks for this. I'll now feel a little more knowledgeable when I ask the dealer to put me on the right service schedule. How do you know how many miles you have to go until the service is due? The car with the message which has just come up has done approx 850 miles.
geo_nr1
On the R it is a mileage service count down. The first time it tells you it needs a service is says "Service due in 2000miles" and counts this down each time you start it till zero.
dazr32
mark don't be too alarmed by the service now! light coming on as it depends on what type of service schedule you are on as mine came on like that without notice. when i spoke to the dealers they confirmed that it was normal and that it was probably set when new according to what service schedule you wanted. this made perfect sense to me as my car was coming up for two years old and was on long life service but because the mileage is very low for the year it needed doing a little sooner. i believe the annual service cars countdown which would explain some of the lads on here having such a reading. hope this helps.
