jaybe1001
Hi, I am looking at a couple of S3's both similar age (one 02 one 52) and mileage (37k and 41k respectively). Both are advertised as the same price, 17k and are in similar condition. The thing is that the What Car target price for each is worked out as 15370 (for the 0202) and 15120 (for the 0252). Both cars have a few additional options such as leather heated seats and parking sensors on one and a tracker on the other (both have BOSE hifi), but nothing that I can see that would account for the difference in the What price and the asking price. I realise that the dealer would possibly be open to offers however I am doubtful that they would go down to the What Car target price. So my questions is, what is the general consensus about What Car's pricing? Is is generally too low, or are these cars really over-priced? Looking on Autotrader it seems to be within the middle in terms of price for S3's of that year and mileage. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Test drove an S3 for the first time this week and fallen in love with them!! Thanks, Jon.
Paul
S3's are holding their value. Im thinking of selling mine (on and off) and id be asking £21.5K but mines one of the last few made (03 plate), and very highly spec'd ive never seen a 02 or 52 plate go as cheap as £15,xxx

Simonl
[ QUOTE ] Im thinking of selling mine (on and off) and id be asking £21.5K [/ QUOTE ] i'd be amazed if you get anywhere near that mate. That's probably about what i would get for my 3.2 and that's pretty loaded too on an 04. Last year I had one of the first facelifted BMW 3 series coupe sport's that cost me £26k new, i advertised it when it was 3 months old for £22,500 and got 1 call!!! after 2 months in the classifieds... had to let it go for £21,500... ouch! In terms of trade in, one dealer offered me £19k for my A3 when it was 6 months old!!! fecker!!! I did say he was an insulting tw@t, knowing that he'd stick it straight on the forecourt for £25k
DuncS3
They are on the strong side, especially at the quoted mileages but you mentioned dealer - if its a main dealer then that explains it Dunc
loddrik
I think you'd be lucky to get £18k for an 03 plate S3, it is one thing to see the guides and what people are advetising them for, but actually closing a deal or part exchanging are completely differnt things, if you sell Paul, prepare yoursef for a HUUUUGE shock. jaybe1001
Thanks for the info guys. For your information they are not for sale through main dealers. Main dealer prices appear to be very high! Will be trying to get them down to nearer 16k. Watch this space. Thanks again. Jon.
A3Floyd
I found that the parkers/glasses guide prices for the S3 were seriously out of touch with reality. The guide price for my S3 (nice spec Silver 1999 210 with 53k miles) was £11.5k and I sold it within 1 week for £13.5k. I wasn't lucky either, it's what these cars go for. They DO hold their value very well overall but the market has become flooded with them over the last 6-12 months due mainly to the new shape A3. Simonl
Most of the guides (including what car) reflect 'trade in' prices which would be about right if you sold yours to a hungry buyer for 13k+ The trade like to call these values - the cars 'true value'... but then they would because they're FECKERS!!! I call a car's 'true value' whatever someone is prepared to pay for it.
Paul
LeMans got it, they are worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. mines is pretty loaded, Sat Nav Plus the lot, with quite a few AmD enhancements inc Porsche Brakes. seeing the prices of cars on auto trader, is where i got my figures from. There is nothing as new, or as loaded as mine with sat nav (a 2.5k option) in a national search of Autotrader. I certainly would expect more than 20K, private, but realise id get raped if i traded it in. There is always the strip it of mods and sell it stock. Just seems a shame to do so, when 90% of S3 buyers go and get them modded again anyway! Ive already beared the cost of that, so it could save someone. jaybe1001
Ok just been back to dealer no. 1 - managed to get a set of (4) new tyres thrown in. 0252 - 41,000 miles, BOSE, full leather, heated seats, silver mirrors, parking sensors (could indicate lady driver? - apologies to female drivers out there). £17k. Think I'll keep chipping away and see what I can get away with, but get the impression that he isn't going to move far. It was advertise for 18k a few weeks ago. Any opinions? Simonl
17k doesn't sound too bad. I think full leather, heated seats & silver mirrors were all standard on the 02's anyway, so don't let him pull that one on you. Try and get an extended warranty or service deal, that will save you ££££££. PS: Once the deal is closed, go for an Audi wallet... it always works! Most importantly it seems to drive very well and so far i think i have had value for money
