Bristol_Ian
2000 S3, done 42,000 miles and the clutch pedal has mysteriously fallen into many, many, many pieces........ Well, not the pedal itself, but the weld that joins the pedal to the clutch master cylinder() - but this has meant the master cylinder is fooked, as is the pedal, some other gubbins...... Of course, this has all been relayed to me by my local stealer (Bristol Audi) - who I have also instructed to "not be serious" when they quoted the £497 repair bill... So now they're off chatting to Audi "customer service" (is there such a thing?) to talk about, well, something that will make it cheaper! So, any comments? Anybody heard of anything similar? Surely welds shouldn't be snapping on Audis! (And btw, I'm no 18stone muscled-monster either!)
Booster
Welcome Bristol_Ian. Sorry to hear your problem. I would expect and hope that Audi (whether it be the dealer or Audi themselves) would make a contribution to the cost. It is not unheard of. Start off polite and then shout if needs be!! Bristol_Ian
Thanks for that booster - I was merrily expecting (and hoping!) for some sort of contribution, but seeing as it's taken them 4 days so far to sort anything, frustration and a certain twitchy-ness is beginning to kick in..... Text book politeness so far, will keep the thread updated with any(!) progress! Cheers!

StewyK
Had to have the clutch pedal assembly on 2000 S3 replaced last week. Just pulling up at lights when bang and the pedal went to the floor. Luckly managed to coast down hill to a garage where they found a broken plastic clip to be the culprit. When they contacted the local Audi dealer they were told it was a common problem and the complete pedal assembly had to be replaced total cost £85 which is pretty good as my Audi dealer wanted to charge £89 per hour+ parts. I intended to complain to Audi customer services but havent yet.
Bristol_Ian
That sounds exactly the same then! There was definitely a load of plastic in the footwell - I can only assume this weld business is "proper" and not them trying to rip me off....... Bristol_Ian
Well, ..... 2 weeks later, the car is back. And fair play to Audi, they footed half the cost, so £270 lighter of pocket, the clutch pedal works again. HOWEVER, there is a new problem - what I can only describe as "sticky revs" - I take my foot off the accelerator and the car seems to "keep going" for a couple of seconds, before there is a slight kick and the engine starts decelerating... I've had this on a different car, it being a sticky accelerator cable. But I thought the S3 has no such cable, it all being electric.....
Simonl
My old golf T used to do that, thought it might be the turbo winding down or something.
StewyK
Thats just what mine does since the pedal replacement, throttle seems to hang. Been back to the garage that did the work (parts & labour about £90) they phoned Audi technical who would not help, my local Audi dealer who service the car said they all do that! but would investigate at £89 per hour. It has been suggested that it is the switch on the clutch pedal, havent investigated yet cos i am not sure what it is supposed to do.
Bristol_Ian
Hmmmmmm.... Certainly interesting - I had a similar response from Audi when I reported it, but I will take the car in next week anyway, for a look. Mine certainly never did it BEFORE the clutch pedal thing - and it feels dangerous at times, especially when leaving braking a little late - the car pushes on until the throttle backs off = unpredictable braking! Again, I will keep this thread updated....
Bristol_Ian
This should be the last post - honest!! Audi Bristol checked out the "sticky revs" - full ECU diagnostic (5051 apparently...... ) which threw up a few errors - an error for the revs, error for the clutch switch and idling revs error. So all these were reset and the car seems a lot better. The guy did say that if the problem seems to exist, it could also be the throttle housing all gacked up - a 1 & a half hour job to clean out!! But the S is sweet again!!
