PreacherCain
OK - possibly a weird question, but does anyone have the gear ratios for the 5-speed box in the FWD A3 turbo? I'm looking for mph/1000rpm. Why? Well, an engineer friend of mine has knocked up a spreadsheet that uses torque, engine speed and gear ratios in mph/1000rpm to show the tractive force developed by the wheels at different engine speeds and gears. From this, you get a pretty set of curves showing what the optimal change-up point is for your car... Can anyone tell that I'm bored today? jem2768
Hate to disappoint your engineer friend but it's already been done... Take a look at: Car Test Not a bad wee program, the DOS version is free (yes, will run in a windows command prompt). Only downside is it's aimed at the american market but you can take, say, a TT, and modify some of the parameters and race it against pretty much anything you choose... Great for whiling away the hours before the first beer of the day...
