UBM
Hi VW peeps, Sorry for invading your forum but we really need some help choosing Mrs CM's new car. She would like an 03 golf, either 1.6 match or 1.8 T GTI. Is there anything we need to be wary of and how much should we expect to pay?
DaddyDub
Go for the 1.8T, much more fun than the Match, plus the 1.6 isn't that great an engine (but only compared to the 1.8T - not that it's a bad engine).
shao_khan
The 1.6 is a truely dreadful engine - dont go near one unless you cant find ANY other engine. Around town my 1.6 is worse on fuel than my R32 was!!! It is also gutless, badly geared and just not pleasent to drive. V5 / 1.8T are both a lot lot lot better engines. There were a couple of nice Colour concept GTis about recently - Yellow with Yellow and black leather trim - look good

hotdog
Come on tight wad!!! Buy her an R32, you know it makes sense!! I'd say definitely a nice GTI, probably pick up a reasonably priced example now the Mk5 is out.
