Sorry Riz disagree with ur theory, In my previous job i was doing 65miles a day and she never drank any then, and now im doing 12 miles a day in just stop start city traffic and she hasnt changed her attitude. She gets plenty of stick too from me as soon as she's warmed up but never before 90 degC. Oh yeah and she has had the Revo treatment too.

Right,

Ive just spoken to my friendly dealer and has told me that if an Audi is consuming 'that' much oil so early in its life then basically one of the YTS lads at the Audi plant thrashed the arse off it as soon as it rolled off the production line and basically fecked up all the lovely tight tolerences the engin should have hence having a 1000ml run in period.

Actually im only messin FIREdevil.gif

Although i did speak to my dealer and asked him about the drinking problem and basically told me that every engine is VERY different and some have tighter tolerences than others and those that do dont use much oil at all and forth with. However he has had to replace an S3 engine once because it was drinking oil at a mad rate, and by a mad rate i mean a litre every 1000kms !! Thats a feckin lot id say.

So i think u dont need to worry at present unless her drinking problem gets a lot lot worse.

Ok, now you've all gone and got me worried. I admit I don't keep a close enough eye on my oil - apart from waiting for the dreaded light to come on...

When's the best time to check the oil - after a long run? How long should you leave oil to drain back into the sump before checking the dipstick?

Sorry to be such a newbie.... iamwithstupid.gif

No worries, i usually check the oil the following morning before i start the car, make sure the car is on a flat surface to give a true reading. I dont trust the digital monitor as sometimes the oil goes below the min mark and still the computer doesnt detect this, i also checked this on a Audi TT! pengy.gif

Actually, best time to check is actually with the engine at operating temperature 10 minutes after it's been switched off.

Second best to that is when it's stone cold before starting.

Speaking with a senior Audi tech today and he checked the Book of Words for my motor.

Maximum consumption allowable by Audi as acceptable is...wait for it...

{{{drum roll}}}

1 litre per 1000km/600miles!

EEEEEK!!! shocked.gif

Both myself and the junior tech dude had leaping eyebrows to this, but lo, the Book doth not lie.

Seemingly, these motors can use a lot of oil and part of this is due to a low-friction treatment of the cylinder bores, part of it due to it being a turbo and the last part is down to both the driving style and the type of use it gets.

He confirmed that lots of mway miles = more oil used.

So, all in all, Riz and I can breathe a little easier. wink.gif
