John_Doe
Has anyone looked into having Bose fitted aftermarket? If so, feedback would be most appreciated, would rather ask questions via the forum before going to stealers. Next question is it worth the money over and above what the Symphony pumps out??? Ari
I'm lead to belive its a complete non starter as a retro fit, Richy looked into having it done. Standard stereo is pretty impressive though by all accounts.
UBM
I asked when looking to buy cabs without bose - was told they wouldn't do it, too big a job. So I told them to feck off (well, sort of...)

[/ QUOTE ] The BOSE system uses identical head units to the standard OEM setup. With the BOSE the symphony outputs to a pre-amp, and some of the speakers are replaced with BOSE ones. I'd never recommend a retro-BOSE install... its a pretty good car setup, but its going to cost a grand or so, and for that kind of money you can buy a serious pre-amp/speakers. As you don't have BOSE, the audi setup is a standard affair, so putting a pre-amp in yourself wont be too much hassle, and will improve the sound no-end
SPLiiX
Put in another amp/change the amp?? Can you do that???

DHA
To be honest the money would be better spent on aftermarket audio.
Milo
My set up is none BOSE and I can't say I feel like I'm missing anything dramatic. The tin tops have got the big bass speaker as standard so for most people, the standard set up is good enough. I understand the bass speaker is omitted from the cab (9 speaker set up) hence a lot of cab drivers go for BOSE. I would agree with DHA - if you want better sound I would spend my hard earned at an ICE dealer rather than try to retrofit BOSE.
UBM
I agree Milo - having had the standard sounds in the tin tops and Bose in the cab! The bose is clearer, especially at high volume, but the parcel shelf bass bin in the saloon was ace!
homerj
Have to say I love my Bose, standard system is good but the Bose is great. Do not get it retro fitted though, my dealer did this once on an A8, and told me they would never do it again. Cost a fortune for them to do, and left the car in a real state at the end.
