cruiser647
Just a quick note - why didn't Rover make the 75 Rear Wheel Drive? They spent a fortune for the RWD conversion for the 4.6 one. So why not do it for the rest of the range. It would then be an alternative to the Merc and BM's.
Daz
Probably because it was developed by BMW.
CarMad
The car was due to be a BMW 3 rival, but BMW basically rail roaded things to make the car what it is now. I.E. not much of a rival really. Rover designers and management had massive fights about lots of things but BMW had their own way. They had a plane load of people coming over each week to have things how they wanted. They didn't want the car to be any threat whatsoever to their own portfolio. Shame but true, it could have been a great car.
Booster
My dad had a 99T plate 75 Connisseur (sp) and he says 5t was one of the best cars he's had for reliabilty. In three years of ownership it never went wrong once (wish I could say the same thing about my last three Audis). I thought it drove like a boat but he and I have different priorities in a car. His mate bought it off him and apart from needing a new clutch it is still going strong.
