ARGH I must not click buy it now. I must not click buy it now. I must not click buy it now. I must not click buy it now. I must not click buy it now. I must not click buy it now....

Please, somebody talk some sense in to me. The 42" just looks so small now, even the wife has said "our plasma is too small, how much is a 60inch one"... seems like a really good screen and an excellent price.

But, argh, somebody talk some sense in to me smile.gif

Sod that!

Get yourself a decent projector then you'll never look at a poxy 61" screen again.

I think you'll find that faroudja make the chips inside also the best scalars etc, so this shouldn't put you off.

However, I think a decent projecter and screen would be a much better option !

I had a projector, didn't like it frown.gif My front room layout isn't really ideal for a projector anyway, only good place for the screen would be in front of the bay window, would have to shut the curtains to view it, would have to mount the projector on the ceiling and due to our "posh lights" would have to replace those, etc. A projector is ok as a 2nd TV, but the plasma is literally on 24 hours a day with kids coming in and out watching cartoons or us oldies watching eastenders at night, couldn't really imagine a projector being "the" main TV.

works well for us, but we watch movies mainly and encourage kids not to watch too much tv etc.

only downside really is you need to replace the bulb every few months.

One onther thing to consider about a 61" screen - you would need a very large front room to be able to get the best out of that size screen 'A general rule of thumb is to place the television 3 times the screen's diagonal dimension from the ideal viewing and listening spot' so a 61" would need to be placed about 15 feet away !

It would be awsome though grin.gif

Also Russ.

If you desperately want a 60" plasma, have a look at richersounds.co.uk.

Their LG one is £3999. The problem with plasma is they have a limited lifespan, so only spend 6K if you don't mind it depreciating nearly as poorly as a car!

Also, huge LCD's are around the corner...

these last longer and maintain their brightness better.

I've always been stupid about electronics... I like to buy the best as early as I can, and usually replace things before they break.

I got our current Plasma when they were still stupidly expensive (about 5 years ago), but it's still superb - just a bit small. It's now however the oldest piece of electronic equipment in the entire house and I'm getting tempted with a new one. And it would like nice in the bedroom smile.gif

We're planning on moving house soon so although the current front room might be a little small for it, the new one (hopefully) won't be smile.gif

Huge LCD's may be around the corner, but I never wait for things that are round the corner, I buy what's available now and then pine over the new stuff when it comes out, and get one of those too. That's why I'm nearly bankrupt.
