shao_khan
Been thinking of one of these to replace my trusty old 6210i. Can anyone who has one comment on the address book functionality? It states in the manual you can use multiple numbers for a single name, but I have had a play with one and it seems to store them all seperately and with a good couple of hundred contacts on my phone that could get very messy - so am I getting it wrong here perhaps? Snail
Someone i work with has one. Says its great at as a phone, but isn't great for other bits, like sharing information with a pc (address book etc)
Si_GTi
Motorola phones do store multiple numbers under the same name, but in the phone book display them all as seperate entries. So yes, it will look messy! I had a Moto v600 last year and found that it wasn't too bad. My only two gripes were that the Bluetooth isn't very intuitive to use, beyond pairing up a headset, and you can't delete Motorola's and/or your network operator's standard crap like themes/pictures/ringtones that you don't want or like. I just wanted to clear some space in the memory! On the plus side they have a nice weight to them and are built well, or at least mine was! Good screen on them too, and mp3 ringtones I'd agree with snail, good as a phone, some of the features can be frustrating though...
Sparky
Wasn't impressed with it. Screen isn't as good as say the Samsung D500 (appears quite dark in comparison), didn't really take to the software and as Snail mentioned, sharing data is rubbish. It's also very wide! A few friends have had them in their jeans pockets and damaged them when sitting down (cracking screen/case) as they are quite fragile. Call quality was great though. JaredCarter
I was thinking about getting one of these too, but if they are really fragile, then that's no good for me.
Sparky
Best try it for yourself. Everyone is different and some of my friends have clumsy great banana hands so they're prone to breaking many things. Having said that, I found them to be a little to fragile. Snail
Curious, the guy at work says its a really durable phone (due to the metal casing) If i was after a mobile phone, purely for looks, and telephone calls, i wouldn't hesitate, but the keys you'll either love or hate, the camera isn't great, and the data transfer (as mentioned) is bad. It has a lot of good points, and i would recommend trying it
aal234
if you like the v3 but are worried about how durable it is hang on and get a v8 or v280- the candybar version of the v3. I think the v3 case is tough but the weakpoint is the hinge. The v8 and v280 are candy bars so no hinge to break!
Omi
Or get an SPV M500?
aal234
whats the c500 like? I had the first orange windows smart phone e100? and it was a pile of junk you had to reboot it all the time it kept crashing. it was just like having windows 98 on your mobile phone - rubbish! I take it they have improved now? I'm getting a treo 650 on orange soon. heard much good or bad about them?
Omi
They're very good. Vast improvement over the 600. Much brighter, clearer screen, although the keyboard has a feel you'll either love or hate. C500 is excellent, but I'd wait until I can give the C550 a good road-test before jumping on another WM phone.
GCab
I've got a v3 and have dropped it (several times on hard hospital terrazzo flooring) without any damage at all - the metal casing really does make it tough, a "metallised" plastic case (which every other shiny phone has) would be history by now. All that happens is the battery cover comes off, and even that never seems to get damaged (compared to Nokias I've had). Battery stays put. Fantastic build quality Oh, and I've dropped it open, with it landing at all angles, and no damage to hinge - still snicks shut neatly. Why so many falls ? Not the phone's fault (i.e. not slippery etc.) - just general rushing around at work, things falling out of theatre greens when bending over, whatnot. shark_90
My V3 crashed all the time, had to have 2 replacement screens, the battery lasted a day at best, it didn't store enough texts, it was slow to use, I had to wait for it to catch up when writing texts, the predictive text system (iTap) moves the words around dynamically so you never know where the word is you're looking for, the PC suite was a joke and barely ever worked, using bluetooth for the first time in a while caused it to crash and reboot, and it had about 6mb of memory. On the plus side it was a good looking phone and the call quality was great. Camera wasn't bad once you'd given the sensor enough time to sort out the light. After 4 months of perseverance I gave up and flogged it on ebay.
