Hayfever

Just had a night out with my friends completely ruined by the bastard affliction.

Been sat out in a beer garden at the local pub for the past couple hours, friendly chit-chat, etc and the whole time I had to sit there holding a fecking tissue to my left eye to stop the intense pollen based agony that felt like the eye was covered in sand every time I blinked. Also meant that my eye and all around it swelled up and I looked like someone had punched me a couple time.

To make matters worse one of the people there a girl who really like and was seeing a bit last summer (until my ex came back to feck things up) so I spent the whole evening looking crappy in front of her.

Luckily by the time I left it had gone down a bit and since had just been on the soft drinks I was able to take the long way home (20 miles instead of 3) which made me feel a bit better.

Even better however would be for the fecking pollen to go away!

Based on past experience whatevers causing it goes out of season in the next week or so but whatever it is can piss right off now thank you very much!

I can sympathise with you dude. I have the same :-(.

My neighbour swears by Beconase so I'm going to give it a pop.

I am on Zirtek at the moment, but it seems to lessen the symptoms, but the red's around my eyes feels about double normal size, and itches like mad.

This beconase stuff takes a couple of days to work, but is supposed to be good stuff. I'll report back!

I never had Hayfever until I turned 23. I was bought up in rural lincolnshire and have never suffered previously, and initially didn't believe the doctor!smashfreakB.gif

Unfortunately I have Asthma also, but it only tends to get out of control when I go to the mother in laws (300 year old, damp house with cats!) UHOH7.GIF

PS Beconase seems to be doing its trick after day 2!!

I'm near Wincanton so not that nearby, but I start work in Swindon on the 11th of July for 13 months so I won't be around much then anyway.

Hay isn't the problem for me, I think its grass, so when all the neighbours start cutting the grass I just have to hide in doors all day!

Bad Luck guys. I've been diagnosed with asthma a few months ago and am waiting to so if hayfever also starts affecting me... smashfreakB.gif

That's a shame mate.

I've got it too, but had it for years and there are days when you're properly fecked with asthma and hayfever too.

Depends on what they've put you on, but I'm not allowed the hayfever injection now as it's not allowed to be given to people with asthma. smashfreakB.gif

Tried the injections a few times, and wasnt worth the hassle, didnt work.

I had it bad on Saturday, and had to go out and get me some relief!! Tablets that is, and ended up with stuff called Piriton, took a double dose but it worked all weekend.

Most of the hayfever medication (antihistomene) makes you dead drowsy. I felt really tired over the weekend.

Yeah...I get it too...sat a work now feeling doggo. Off to doc's this week for some more stuff...usually have Telfast (fexofenadine) plus beconase, which sorts me, providing I dont go running around a field. it seems like trying to get blood out of a stone trying to get 60 days supply of tabs...they will usually only dish out 30 which don't last for long enough....roll on xmas!

I've had it for 35 years, a few top tips :

* Drink plenty (it flushes your throat out!)

* Wear glasses/sunglasses to shield eyes from pollen - especially if driving

* Boots hayfever tablets work best for me (same as Clarityn)

Try taking a spoonfull of honey each day, alternate the brands/types and try and go for the more expensive darker honey's (cheaper off the shelf types are more sugar than the others) as this builds up your resistance to pollens and airborne spores......it worked for me. Give it a go it might just do the trick. 169144-ok.gif

The absolute worst thing about flipping hayfever is trying to get to sleep at night with a blocked nose. I never normally take anything for it in the vain hope that one day my body will say enough is enough and stop having symptoms ... a strategy that has not worked for the last 10 years.

Last night, woke at 4:15, took a Clarityn just so I could sleep. Maybe I'll just give in and take something for the next month or so. Before that though I'll give the honey trick a go. I'd like to know how it works though.

I have unsfortunately had it since I was a toddler, I have had almost everything, Rhinocrom, Rhinocort, Becconase, Piriton, Zirtek even had herbal dung.gif(excuse the spelling) but was advised against the injection from my GP for some reason. Trialudan was by far the best till they took it off the shelf as people were having irregular heart beats with it! I now use a nasal spray called flixonase and it seems to be the best of a bad lot at the moment. Came into work on Monday and was asked if I had been fighting as my right eye was almost closed and my left was all red. My best medicine is go a nice run in the car with the A/C on full blast.

Give us a shout if you fancy a beer, my parents live in Wick-St-Lawrence, all of 5 miles away. I may also be house sitting for someone in the village at that point too.

On the hayfever front I use beconase but you have to take it regularly. Also as a bonus my local Tescos have started selling it for something like £4.
