Does anyone else seem to get nosebleeds during the hayfever season too? I seem to be getting loads lately!

Lots of nosebleeds, at times when you could do without them as well. Nosthing worse than sitting in a meeting or giving a presentation to a hopeful client and then ya nose starts p1ssing with blood. Not GOOD!!

Guys,

the advice I give is to start on a good, once daily anti-histamine tablet.. it will help.. if you are still suffering add in a nasal spray.. beconase is good, flixonase is even better.. still suffering?.. add in eye drops.. quite safe to use all three..

If you are still bad, then you can get things from your doctor.. like Kenolog injection.. doesn't work for everyone, but for those that is does it will make you symptom free for the season.

PM me .. if you have have any specific questions about any medicaition.

It's also worth trying changing tablets.. some years clarityn will work and some years not.. maybe try taking Zirtek instead.. it does help! You need to find a regime that works for you, and be prepared to change if it doesn't.

I took Zirtek one year - had two pills and came out in a rash that started at the top of my head and went right down to the tips of my toes. Even went to see a dermatologist and they did a biopsy. She reckoned (95% sure) that I was allergic to Cetirizine, which seems to be an ingredient in a few relief remedies. Unfortunately, they couldn't be 100% sure without waiting for the rash to go completely and then getting me to take it again. They said the ethically they wouldn't ask me to do it, especially as it took over a month for it all to clear up.

It was the most horrible thing I have ever had to put up with - some nights I would get off the train and run down the road and be pretty much stripped to my undies as I got to the front door and then upstairs into a freezing cold shower and the wife would have to wash me down with a special cream that I got on prescription.

The specialist said that she would have to send the results of the biopsy to the manufacturers as she couldn't find any record of this happening before. never heard anything back though.

I reckon I must be one of the only people who is allergic to anti-allergy tablets!!

Is there any harm taking them more than stated?

I take one in the morning, and one when I get home, but still find I have problems. I also have asthma so was told I cannot have an injection, which is an arse.

I've been taking 2 or 3 Claritin a day.

Best friend is doing a Pharmacy degree at Portsmouth Uni plus has worked at, and lives above, his dads pharmacy so he knows his stuff and he told me that I could pretty much take as many as I need (within reason obviously)

I'm living with a qualified pharmasist (she's just qualified), but when asking her I got a "dunno" reply.

Firstly, tell her to feck off and find youself a more experienced one instead, secondly, download yourself a decent spellchecker too please. I'll see you back here in 1 week with a urine sample, next!!!

Thankfully, my symptoms seem to have abated over the years - or maybe it's just that I don't get the chance to roll around in the hay quite as much... tongue.gif

Er, anyway...

Anyone still buying Zirtek stop. NOW! You're pissing money down the drain! slap.gif

The patent ran out a year or two ago, which means any pharma can produce copies at a much cheaper rate. Zirtek is, fundamentally, Cetirizine Dihydrochloride. Therefore, pop along to Tesco's and ask for their own brand Cetirizine tablets. Currently on a 2 for 1 offer which means you can get 60 (yes, six zero, two months' worth) for £3.49... Zirtek are still over a fiver for 7 (yes, seven)!!

I find a tablet every day (whether you feel you need it or not) keeps the symptoms at bay through spring/summer - and also works well for dog/cat allergies too.

Trialudan was by far the best till they took it off the shelf

Yes I remember this, sorted my prickly heat out as well which made one summers 3 weeks hols to Greece for the first week like hell on earth. I'd forgotten to bring any, and the local antihistamines didn't work. Bt a stroke of luck a family going home had a stock of them, and a quick whip round later, I had a 2 weeks supply. I fried in the sun for the next 2 weeks, and didn't peel like my mates because of my slow start in the sun

I was prescribed NeoClarityn (Desloratidine) which is the same as Clarityn (but a hell of a lot better) and i've been absolutely fine.

I've been making sure I take the tablet the moment I wake up to let it get into my system before I have to leave the house for work.

I don't suffer much at all but Mr wtf suffers terribly and pinched one of my NeoClarityn one day and told me that he felt much much better that day as opposed to the days he'd taken Clarityn, Zirtek, Piriton etc. Zirtek which contains Cetrizitine Hydrochloride and Piriton which contains Chloramaphenarine (sp!!) make him drowsy anyway, Desloratidine does not (or me!).

So I sent him to the docs and he now has his own script for the NeoClarityn - a months supply for £6.50 with 6 months repeat which means he doesn't need to go back.

Everyone is different but this is by far the best anti-histamine I have used.

There's another one which contains Cinnarazine which can be effective for the right person.

I would recommened a visit to your doctors if the one you are taking isn't working, they'll always start you on the mildest one and move up.

Went to see the doctor today, for some injections as I am starting haymaking in a couple of weeks. Last year it was unbearable.

He said that they were no longer allowed to get the injections, and he prescribed some different anti-histamines which he said they say "one a day" on the pack, but take one in the morning and one at night!!

He deliberately left "two a day" off the prescription to "save upsetting the pharamacists"
