mr_o_uk
Ive got a 1988 Golf Cabriolet, with a 1.8 engine. Havent had it long, but it runs fine during the day, but at night (i am assuming this is because its cold) it doesnt run well at all. It is chuggy, if that makes sense!?! power goes up and down. difficult to control under clutch control i.e. when trying to park it slowly. i was told from the previous owner that its the choke and that once its warmed up its fine. had a 10 minute drive on my way home just now and it was still happening when i got home. could this be the choke playing up? is this a common fault? would a replacement choke work? or is it the carb itself? any help would be appreciated. I can find out the carb type etc if needs be... Thanks Jon.
Rustynuts
It couldn't possibly be electrical, could it? I bet you had your headlights on, maybe draining more current from the ignition system or something. Not really much idea about the choke (Dieselhead, you see) but the fact it does it at night could be important.
Tobes49
So in the day starting from cold it fine? But at night no matter if it cold or warmed up plays up? The pierburg carbs are very prone to wearing and most people replace them with webers carbs.
