National Insurance contributions nightmare

My partner works part time as a college tutor on a contract, obviously now summer is here there is no work and therefore no pay. So off she goes to the Job Centre to see what to do about NI contributions before getting a temping job for the rest of the summer (until the new term starts).

Anyway, probably won't be elligible for contribution based JSA (which is the normal £50 a week thing) if her NI contributions are under the threshold - which they most likely are.

If she had never worked she would get them paid, but part-time - no chance. She can't even apply for income based as I work more than 24 hours a week.

She went apeshit "so my partner is expected to support me completely and I will also get a NI bill at the end of the year"

answer: "erm... yes"

This is after she has been behind some 18 yr old with baseball cap with his pregnant 16yr old gf! and the woman was going on about sorting housing for them and who to talk to and everything!

She then said "the system is a load of shite, it only supports people that scam it"

So, suggestions on a postcard please:

Get married

Get her a normal job, even though she loves teaching at the college they aren't taking on full time staff - yet keep her on some crappy contract sportifs2.gif

Become a chav

it was more a rant of how poo the whole system is and I wasn't really expecting any advice as such as there seems to be no way round it. Although any alternative ideas would be appreciated smile.gif

Anyone looking for a biology lecturer laugh.gif

There would be enought in the pot if we didnt hand it out to everyone who decided to enter England on the underside of a Eurostar train NONO3.GIF

Perhaps, but we take in less immigrants per head of capita than nearly all other western european countries. Stop reading the Daily Mail so often ... wink.gif

We might take in less _legal_ immigrants, but I'm sure we take in more illegal ones than the rest of the world put together.
