Milo
We are thinking about taking the kids away in August for 3 or 4 nights and stopping in Central Scotland around the Falkirk/Stirling area. Does anyone know of any good 3 or 4 star hotels in that area? Only requirements other than being a decent hotel is that it has to have leisure facilities, in particular a pool. R32North
Dunblane Hydro is very good by all accounts, but I'll ask about and see what the in-laws suggest - they are from Dunblane / Stirling area.

RossG
Dunblane Hydro is worth considering - I stayed there last October and was mildly impressed. Nice pool, but the room was a bit small and pants. There is the Inchyra Grange near Grangemouth - its a 4 star macdonald hotel, and again is okay - 4 star and has the facilities, and although very close to Falkirk and Stirling, it looks right onto the refinery at Grangemouth. Kind of gives an eerie atmosphere to the place. Crief Hydro is quite a bit further away - but it does have a lovely setting. Then there is Gleneagles - its only 10 minutes or so from Striling. At night There are some smaller hotels in Falkirk, but I'm not sure that they have the pool etc.

Mollox
I stayed at Airth Castle when I was up Falkirk way a few years back. I loved the location and can’t remember any problems with the hotel. Can’t remember there being a pool but then I didn’t really look IIRC The setting was great – I don’t remember if there was a pool but then neither do I remember looking for one. Might not be 5 star but I remember it being perfectly acceptable and it’s the landscape that makes it Radisson Airth Castle & Hotel
Milo
Is that the Radisson? We have looked at that and it is one of the possibilities. It does have a pool and leisure facilities; also 123 rooms but only 23 in the castle which are all booked for when we want to go. I have passed the details to Mrs M and left it up to her to decide as whatever i choose, it will be wrong. Edit - spelling again

Milo
That'll be the one. It's got my vote so far but I'm keeping out of it.
CraigR
Only just spotted this Milo, i am from Falkirk, if you want somewhere nice with a good pool/gym/sauna etc try here Inchyra Hotel Very nice hotel and next to the Edinburgh/Glasgow motorway Don't go to Dunblane Hydro, it has gone down hill of late, have heard a few complains of late, especially noise at night time. Airth castle is also nice, but maybe for a couple of nights and with the kids its a little bit to fancy, it has the facilities you are looking for but is defo more buisiness set. Look on the web sites and decide yourself, both good hotels. The decision is yours If you want any more info on the area let me know, happy to help you out. Milo
Cheers for the heads up on that one Craig Rang them today for a price - they can do a room suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids (sofa beds) for £165 a night B & B. It looks like a cracking hotel but judging by the wine list prices, I presume it's not the cheapest place to drink All info passed over to Mrs M as she's paying. Milo
RossG/CraigR Thanks for the info on the Inchyra and the other hotels. After a lot of debate (and because you both recommended it ) we've booked to go to the Inchyra for 3 nights in August (16, 17 & 18) We're looking for the inside info now on where to go and what to do. 3 things are on the itinerary so far: Blair Drummond Safari Park Stirling Castle to see the live performances/reinactments The Falkirk Wheel (I insisted on that one ) Any other ideas suitable for a family day out and any indoor attractions in case of bad weather. I don't mind travelling but would prefer to keep it to around 45 minutes each way. Thanks in advance

Milo
Cheers Craig. My two boys are 4 and 5 and both enjoy most things especially if there are things to do rather than just trailing them 'round somewhere. They're not the computer game, high tech gismo types; they just prefer castles, bridges etc (so basically mini-me's ) The Wallace Monument looks like a good place to go. The 5-y-o shouted "COOL!" when he saw the pictures on the website. I can see my dodgy knee coping with that staircase no problem mind. I'm basically looking for 4 days of activities as the day we get there we'll be there for 11 ish and the day we leave I won't head for home until 6 ish. We have planned one full day for Blair Drummond Safari Park. I've been to Glasgow a fair bit so if I was going to either of the 2 major cities, it would be Edinburgh as it's about 5 years since I was there. CraigR
Try this page, Things to do in Edinburgh. should be something you fancy there. The Falkirk wheel is well worth a visit, even with a boat ride(book in advance) will only take up half a day.
