ANyone been to Zakopane???? going hiking there on thurs ( not for the whole trip), but never been there, so would like some hints if anyone has them. ta.

Bringing back an old thread, I am in Opole at the minute, first time i have worked here in Poland, was a bit of an eye opener driving over from Germany

Nice place though and a nice hotel. But still a very big gap between the wealthy and the poor, am sure joining the EU has done wonders for the country so far but until the divide between the 2 groups and the 20% unemployment are reduced, Poland has a long way still to come.

Thread Hijack!!

Anyone know anything about Sopot, other than it's just down the road from Gdansk and twinned with my hometown?

Supposed to be going there on a Stag next year and wondered if anyone had been.

NO idea, been staying in the south, not gone up there. will have a look though. There is still a gap, the cars are a good indicator, there are alot more new cars than 3 years ago, so the rate of movement is quick. IKEA is good, and you MUST go to polish tesco. they sell anything. Once unemployment goes down, it will be a v.well off country, its still recovering from bad government.

our company has a large facility in Tczew near Gdansk which is, by all accounts, a pretty dreary place to be.

'universal exports' the outliers to gdansk are not great, but dont be put off, there are some really great parts to poland. I have some great pics of the tatry, and the lakes there. really beautiful.
