Heavy steering...

Recommended Posts

My mum absolutely loves her Cooper S, but because she's only a woman and not necessarily an avid sporting driver, she's thinking of changing it after 3 years because she's had enough of the weight of the steering. Is there any way to lighten it up by changing stuff to do with the power steering? Or would this just be sacresanct?

Cheers

The only way your going to change the behaviour of the steering, without technical modifications is changing to more sensbile alloys.

Has she got the run-flat tyres? is so, switching to normal tyres might help, otherwise, the wider, and lower profile the tyre, the harder/heavier the steering will be, so get her to test drive a car with smaller alloys (ie if her alloys are 17" try a mini with 16" alloys.)

Hello, new here. I've just had my steering rack and power steering pump replaced for the 3rd time as it was faulty. take it into the garage as it can get heavier over time and not be noticed. 1st time the pump was faulty, 2nd time it was a computer fault not activating the power steering properly. get it checked out, it was all done under warranty
