Yokohama A539 Tyres

I have used 2 sets of A539's on my trackday car (when on the public road), now, the car is very light (800kgs) and i have found the yoko's very good, they wore quite well, they had very good grip in the dry and were very respectable in the wet, not thet i used them very much in the wet but when i had been out in the wet and been "enthusiastic" they served very well indeed.

Other people i know with heavier road cars have said they wern't very good, but all of these guys wern't what i would call "fast drivers" so how they tested the tyres limits i dont know confused.gif

As a budget performance tyre i thought they were great on my light car, i even used them once on the track one day after doing 1200 miles during a week in france (le-mans) and if you have driven in france during le-mans weekend you will know i wasn't exactly "cruising" grin.gif

I've had toyos in the past, good performance tyres, in the dry very little can touch them, in the wet they are OK, and they seem pretty soft, so dont last that long.

If your after a performance tyre, go with the toyo, if your after an all round tyre, stay with the goodyear.

I ran them on my GTIR for a year or so. Must have done 5-10,000 miles and they were still OK at the end (couple of mm tread). I only got rid of them because I'd knackered the shoulders with too much camber. They lasted very well, very stiff sidewalls too.

Not so hot in the rain either.

Hmmm getting mixed reviews really, I need to get my car sorted really re suspension as its running the inside of the tyres out and leaving the outers and middle fine, on both sides (get that)

So have thought about either keeping with the Goodyears which I know are good, or trying something similar, might give a set a go and see how I get on, thanks for the thoughts guys and girls 169144-ok.gif

Ok so I was about to order a full set this morning, and I find out from another forum a Polo GTI has just been written off with these tyres on (driving in the wet). Would this affect anyone's decision on getting them?

Obviously driver style and other conditional factors could have influenced the accident but still .....

Got to buy something today, should it be the tried and tested, or something new ????

Certainly wouldn't influence my decision having read that.

People in general are capable of crashing any car with any wheel/tyre combo,I would think it's more down to someones poor driving that caused the accident.

I haven't used those tyres for ages but I seem to remember they gripped pretty well in the wet and let's face it,I'm sure you ain't gonna be driving like a loon in the p1551ng rain so it's no problem!
