compbuild
Just got a set of Golf GTI alloys for my Bora, can I use the orignal steel wheel bolts to put them on or do I need special bolts for alloys? Any ideas Thanks
shao_khan
probably not - I chenged mine when I went from Steel to Alloy wheels, the bolt collar is a slightly diffeent shape. Ring around for prices as many places will want £3 a bolt!!!
benjie
If your golf is pre 2001 you will need new bolts. You'll also need them if you're going from steel wheels to alloys.
mulkbear
If the new wheels are genuie VW wheels Alloy wheels there is no need to change the bolts
Mook
The only time you will need to change the wheel bolts is if you are fitting either wheel spacers or wheels with a deeper centre hub. Using the original cast wheel bolts with alloys (as compared with standard steel wheels) won't cause you any problems as the alloys should have a coating to prevent this. eafy
you cant use the original bolts as they are concaved in shape whereas the alloys have a chamfered finish you will need to get new bolts for it
R32North
Ohhh, a difference of opinions here. I'd go for the 'new bolts' option, as I know some VAG cars have different bolts for alloys compared to the ones used on the steel wheels. Can be sure in your situation,, but better safe than sorry.
