petervr6
hi guys. iv got a 1999 golf gti 1.8t. i am having an intermitent problem with the turbo, sometimes it just doesnt work! it doesnt matter if it is cold or hot, or if i turn the engine off and on again, it just seems to stop working every so often. the only other thing i can tell you is that when it is going to stop working the car feels hesitent, very twitchy throttle, not smooth. anybody got any ideas? i have taken it to a specialist and vw themselves, both cant find any issues, and the ecu hasnt reported any fault codes. please anyone out there had any simliar problems? silentandy
Are you sure it's the turbo, what do you mean it doesn't work? I'd suggest checking all the pipes first, probably a split somewhere.
RedRobin
It's going to be difficult for most of us guys here to help you via a virtual forum but I hope you get lucky with this. Otherwise do you know anyone you can talk to in person about it and who can actually see your car before you have to pay a workshop.
petervr6
hi guys. literally the turbo does not work, you cannot hear it spool up, there is no boost! then it may work as normal and boost like a goodun again, its a weird intermittent fault. yesterday the turbo was not working atall, by the time i got to vw to let them have a look it was working fine again! all of the pipes are upgraded forge, so i doubt they have split, i will check though. is it normal to hear the car "suck" air in at about 2.5k revs as the boost is building up?
