NunchukHamster
Hi, first time here and desperate for help 2000 plate Passat 1.8T 20v Sport. I have gone through the forums and think I have a common problem with the car. Symptoms: Car doesn't want to go above 5000rpm most of time when accelerating, when crusing on motorway at 80mph sudden loss of power (car doesn't slow down, just nothing there if you try and accelerate) and seems to mis-fire (not badly, just jerkiness from engine). Cause: MAF? I gave it to VW yesterday, and all they did was make it worse (claim all they did was plug it in, and test drive it ), car now struggles to pull away, then all of a sudden the power comes on in one big hit. NunchukHamster
Cheers Mulkbear. The VW service manager was a class A numpty, I told them probable cause of fault on Tuesday, and that as I understood it that it wouldn't show up on the fault codes so they could get a MAF in to try swapping it, but come the day, "oh, we don't have one in stock to try, we need to keep the car for further investigation". NunchukHamster
New MAF sorted and installed for free by supplying garage. And now it goes just like it should again!! And they even threw in a free cambelt change whilst they were doing it.

steve2
you might find that in about 8 weeks the performance dips slightly, an Audi Assist Techie told me that when a new Maf goes on the car absoulutly flies for awhile but then drops off slightly. this is certainly the case for mine.
