Phone info request from an eejit

Recommended Posts

My new car arrived today and doesn't have a dealer supplied carphone kit. I've got used to hands free with the Audi and would like it again.

Unfortunately, I know three eighths of bugger all about this sort of thing and ask you to bear with me whilst I ask some questions that are probably soul-destroyingly dense.

Is it possible to get a kit that will wire into the car's speakers?

If so, are they clever enough to switch off the stereo when using the phone?

If not, are there any kits with reasonable speakers?

If not, does this inevitably mean having to wear a headset?

Finally, what is an OK phone at the moment? I have very simple requirements - I want to be able to make and receive calls and texts and have a reasonable quality camera. As a bonus I'd like to be able to download ringtones (once I've learnt how yelrotflmao.gif)

As an aside, I'd love a phone with an audible ringtone and doesn't make silly noises when you switch it on and off. These may seem like silly criteria but I am really tired of the fact that my Siemens S55, which I was pretty much forced to get due to Audi's shockingly out of date technology, has a ringtone that can't be heard from any more than 3 microns away. Before that, I had a phone that played a pointless tune whenever switched on or off and this could not be disabled - great during meetings smashfreakB.gif

All responses are much appreciated 169144-ok.gif

How well a car kit can be integrated into your audio depends more on the capability of the radio than the kit. I have succesfully integrated kits into my A6 (Concert radio) and RS6 (Nav plus) without any additional adapters. For 'difficult' radios it is possible to get an adapter which will mute simply by placing a relay in the leads to the speakers.

With regard to choice of phone, the Nokia 6230 seems to be fairly popular (the 6230i is the latest incarnation with a higher resolution (more pixels) camera).

The default power on/power off jingles can be silenced. I don't have any problem with the ring volume.
