Peek-a-Boo....What's Noo?

Have just been to dealers to peek at my new Tornado Red DSG 5dr etc etc while she's in prep....Wedding dress fitting! Car started build in week 28 / 11th July and can report as follows:

1) Tornado Red looks far, far, far better in reality than any photos I've seen so far.

2) Contis fitted to 17s.

3) Only one hole punched out of front vents where earlier DSG models had many holes to expose square vents behind honeycombe. VW found that the DSG system didn't need the extra cooling and the venting didn't flow to the right places anyway. The single hole is only for fixing access.

4) Interior trim (plus Interlagos cloth) throughout is definitely black and not grey. As is roof lining and steering wheel (MFS). The black looks great....I didn't much like the grey on my test drive car.

5) Metal trim to interior looks like brushed aluminium....I only had a quick visit (unplanned and brought forward from tomorrow).

Although I'm the paying customer I didn't even sit in her....guys were all over her getting her ready and I want her ready asap!! Anway you know what they say about dilly-dallying with the bride before the wedding day!!

I'll report again after the wedding reception and I've got her drunk on Optimax....late Saturday. Saturday....saturday night's alright!

Good to hear she's shaping up nicely mate. There's a Tornado Red one at my dealer and I agree it does look much better than any pics!

I'm pretty sure I'll stick to Cloth seats also - think it looks cool in a retro sort of way (plus don't think I can afford the £1600 for leather!!).

Can't wait to see some pics! I guess you may be a bit busy for a few days though!!!!

Hi WhiteHart....re Cloth seats - I thought the same and spent it on DSG instead. Leather is better for resale spec but I've read in other posts that it can get too hot etc. The best looking leather is obviously the light tan imo but needs heavy maintenance to stay looking slick.

My new car is being A-Glazed Plus including cloth protection treatment.

Are you still deciding whether to order a GTI?

yes I heard that leather would be the best option for resale - but I was pretty surprised. surely DSG is the best option for resale - it's what sets the car apart from other hot hatches

As clever as DSG is, it's long term reliability is yet to be proven, so is a bit of an unknown.

not everyone wants the cloth interior, and leather is longer lasting, especially on seats with supportive side bolsters like a gti's.

Just been out to check mine and it also has just one hole in each side

My DSG car has one hole either side, was delivered mid june. Also in my handover it was commented on a new style gear level, my DSG stick has the button on the front rather than the side as they had noticed on earlier cars. Also I have no aerial. Do I have a mix of 05 & 06 model year features??

If you knew the kind of endurance and reliability testing VW Group products go through before product launch you wouldn't even be speculating on reliability........

Yes, if only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen... Cough!!

Si.

Yes!!! VW are as reliable as any car can be! " dmg" is right and furthermore the DSG has also been in some Audis for a while. For what it's worth my father always had VWs (since being a front line soldier against the Germans in WW2!!) and none of them let him down. He stopped driving last year when 91yo....But I'm not saying that was a good thing!!

Thanks Red Robin.

Such testing as +50C vmax sign off and 150,000km accelerated 24 hour durability testing certainly count for something. And as to the stresses cars are put to, well, put it this way, I have no qualms about enduring launch control style take off's smirk.gif

Well I wonder if its better than BMW!!. Even after having the experience of SMG in the E36 M3, the E46 had reliability problems. Will always remember blocking off a main road when mine stuck in neutral smashfreakB.gif

SMG on the E46 isnt the best news for resale.

As for Volkswagen testing that debatable. Mine has had a new Gearbox, so if they cant get a manual right, what hope is there with DSG!!

Hi "dmg"....Your ability to give specific info rather than only emotive response gives me confidence to try out the launch control you so clearly wrote about in another post....When Captain Sensible has got out of my new car after 'running in'.

This causes me to ask what do you think about going easy for the first 600 miles? I don't have any problem erring on the side of caution on this subject.

RedRobin, shall we say, engines are subjected to rolling road testing at the end of the production line, and subjected to loadings more than those subjected in the 'running in' period in the manual. I have had 5 new VW group products in a row, all consisted in running them in by letting the engine warm fully before booting it, from day 1!! Run it in hard, and it will be a faster motor, albeit perhaps with a lessened life expectancy, but seeing as I get rid at 6000 miles, never been an issue for me. I do stress though Let the engine warm through FULLY before going for it.

My GTi had power tail off after 6000rpm till I had done around 2000 miles, now it pulls all the way to the red line.
