simonb
I've told the Mrs-to-be that i'll sort wedding pressies for both sets of parents. One problem though - i don't know what to buy?! Any ideas?? Looking for something unique. A weekend away is a little old hat now so if i do choose that - would want something a bit different to the norm! Any ideas guys?? Help a fellow TSNer out??? I need an answer SOON!!

simonb
Errm - say £200-250 per set (of parents)? That would get a weekend away or a nice ornament - bit boring and original though.

NewNiceMrMe
I have an anecdote here.....one of my old friends once thought it'd be funny, when he was best man, to buy the bride a vibrator. He didn't think it was quite so funny when the bride took offence to the present and said he might be interested to know that his own wife had a good variety of them at home, unbeknown to him... FiftyPence
Since when did the parents of the married-couple-to-be get a gift as a result of the inpending marriage or am i misunderstanding the situation?

[/ QUOTE ] Indeed he does! All the weddings i've been to the parents have received gifts from the bride and groom. Actually got the budget wrong - looking at about £50-75 per set of parents. Cheap really!!
Rustynuts
I think it stems from the tradition that the parents of the bride fork out for the wedding, and a present for them (from the groom) is a way of saying thankyou. You know what weddings are like, and the grooms parents would feel left out, so they get one aswell.

FiftyPence
I vote you get the parents on both sides a commemorative engraved glass so that they remember the day for years to come Oh and how do i put this, id be sh1tting myself if i had to do a big long speech. theres the usual about the mrs being a great woman and looking after you and the parents in law being amazing throughout the time you have known them and youre positive that you will be together til the end of time bla bla bla. Oh and if the mother in law can take a joke, then you should put in a few jokes about her being a battleaxe and all that. And whatever you do, dont mention that youre desperate to consumate the marriage on your honeymoon, that never goes down well with guests
cruiser647
You couls always get them a nice Harrods Hamper? £200 gets a good one! Something for both parents then!
RossG
We gave each of our mother's a bunch of flowers and that was it. Be really carefull with the whole getting presents for everyone involved, the cost can very quickly run away. That is money that is better spent on the wedding itself or as extra spending money on the honeymoon. People will be honoured enough and delighted to be playing a key role in your big day, the don't need a huge gesture present - a token is more than enough IMO Oh and as for your speech - just keep it as genuine and heartfelt as possible. It's your best man's job to be funny, you and the father of the bride are the emotional ones. People were in streams of tears at my speech So was I
Calm Chris
Buy them both a crate of decent red vintage, new wine that will need to be stood for 5 / 10 or 15 years. Then each time they open 1 of 12, 2 of 12 etc they can have happy memories of the day you guys hitched! A set of glasses with a inscription could be added in and both wine and a half dozen glasses would be under budget!
simonb
Sorry guys - none of these. She's proceeded and got them a weekend away in Edinburgh which i thought was ok idea too. Well-used but they'll enjoy it. Also, got the tickets for a show - the Nutcracker (!!!!) i'm sure my Dad will love that. Last show he went to was WWE Smackdown or something with my nephew at MEN Arena. He's a closet wrestling fan - always watching it on Sky!!
