Polo 1.4 1997 Starter motor replacement.

Hello,

Have just got a 1997 1.4 Polo, which has some teething trouble.

The starter motor seems to have a intermittent fault. At times it spins round but does not seem to engage. Other times it will work 1st time with out any problems .

Any suggestions or is it time to replace the unit.

Also, excuse my ignorance as I am new to VW, but I cannot locate the starter motor under the bonnet.!!!!! Where is it???, and is it a difficult job to replace???

Any advice would be appreciated.
