Multitronic advice - best way to drive ?....

I think its just the tiptronic that learns.

With the multitronic box, the throttle response seems consistent in D and S mode, whether I've been playing at lights or just cruising for a bit beforehand 169144-ok.gif

D mode seems to hold at 3-4.5K RPM even when floored, and S rises to 5.5K+ >60-70mph when floored.

Manual mode noticably nippier at low speeds (for traffic light dashes), but S mode seems to provide a pretty good torque/power feed at motorway overtaking speed.

If I'm feeling extreme, severe revving in manual mode still has the edge, but I've never felt any kind of variety as if the box is learning!

(all the above applies to the 3.0 by the way 169144-ok.gif)

In the past someone has mentioned that the multitronic box 'learns' from your driving style and adapts. Does anyone know if this is true or experienced it ?

No, the multitronic isn't adaptive and it is the same, day in, day out it dosesn't learn anything! The only thing to be aware of is a slight delay when pulling away - unlike a conventional auto which has a torque converter and transitions from idle to movement instantaneously the Multitronic has an automatic clutch that is dependant on slighty higer engine revs. So a quick pull away from stationary - say at a road junction actually happens after a short delay -probably half a second (feels longer if the opportunity gap is small!). You learn to live with it after a while - it is still an excellent transmission with amazing fuel economy potential.
