it is not just a oil change service,

they cahnge the oil, oil filter and pollen filter also grease the door hinges

They check all levels

steering systems

suspension systems

exhaust systems

battery

belts condition

tyres plus set tyre pressure

brake systems plus pad and disc wear

lights plus head light aims

wipers

windsceen condition

transmission systems and gear box oil level

and few other thing which i will have missed

also a full diagnosis check of all fault memories.

That is a cheap service i think my dealer charges around the £170 mark for a 1st longlife service

They check the brake pads? If its like my Passat, the pads have been on since i got the car a year ago, done 45k! Just changed the pads and they still had some left.

I think it sounds expensive, but for the sake of the warranty its the only place to go. Mulkbear, i have marked components that VW have ticked as changed, only to find the same bit still fitted. What VW say and what they do are 2 very differant things.

Way to know for sure.... do it yourself smile.gif. If you get stuck you can always come on here and ask Rustynuts for advice. OOhhh smile.gif you ARE rustynuts 169144-ok.gif

Brake pads have done 17k miles and reported as 20% wear, which would give me about 80k miles on a set. Not bad, and tyres less than halfway down aswell, so plenty of wear left in those. If it wasn't for the warranty, I'd probably do it myself, but the fact that I can take it to Harrogate at my convenience, and have it done by someone else (under the ever watchfull gaze of my mate Roger, the service manager) at 30% discount means that for the moment I'll drink their coffee while I read the newspaper. grin.gif

I have a lazy morning, and work the afternoon to pay the bill. 169144-ok.gif

Sounds good! If its with friends i would have trusted VW more. Only friend they wanted was my company credit card. They cant have been that bad though, the cars always sounded decent enough and seemed to run forever.

I tried to blow my 90 bhp Passat up, thrashed it flat out in 3rd up and down the motorway!!! I just wanted my boss to get me a newer one tongue.gif

The little bugger never blew up, i think the 1Z engine is as good as it gets. I reckon i could have this 130 PD engine in bits if i gave it the same.

I paid £212 for the 1st Variable on my 2.0 Passat at 16000 about 7 weeks ago.

Seems a lot but bear in mind - the oil - 5 litres at £12.99 a litre, thats £65 on oil alone, plus the labour rate, and of course, the amount of coffee/tea/chocolate I deem it necessary to consume while waiting, and there's the chance to sit in and fiddle with all the new stuff in the showroom.

The biggy though is the fact that you have the 'benefit' of the Variable Longlife Mobility Guarantee thingy - granted only as good as it sounds when you need to claim.

I also like to steam clean the engine bay myself when i do a service as the VW engine bays look like new (the large engine covers) and stops the customes getting there hands dirty when checking there levels.

Or if a wheel trim/Wheel bolt cover/valve cap is misssing and we have a spare one lie'ing around the workshop i will fit it and say nothing

But then i know some tech's that just don't care and most people tar tech's with the same brush
