Rigsby
I hadn't even seen Blue Graphite before i went for the test drive, just thought the car looked really well in the colour and was something different, i was going for black but i'm sticking with this colour now. The sales guy was really surprised when i said i liked it!!! Cheeky git
spankit
Rigsby 18's and dsg are the must haves. Everything else is personal choice.
chriswastle
Hi rigsby I have seen a graphite blue with 18s last week, it looked the dangles.... the wheels set off every colour and are an absolute must.. dont forget the centre arm rest, best £100 you will ever spend. ps the dsg is expensive but you will only wonder if you go for the manual, i got one of the first with the free paddles but i prefer the stick when in manual. [/ QUOTE ] The £100 toward the dsg is the best, then the £100 toward the 18" monza's, then in third on the options list is the armrest.
Rigsby
After looking at various pics of the GTI I think some colours suit the 18's more than others. I will be going for leather,cd/armrest and no doubt you all know that once i've had a good hour or so with DSG, that will be added as well
RedRobin
Try and see your shortlisted colours 'in the flesh'....You may be surprised how much better some of them look. In fact, try and see as many colours as you can - shortlisted or not.

I must say i ruled a few colours out from just seeing photos of them on sites like this until i actually got to see the colour in the flesh. Infact i ruled the colour im getting out from photos and also ruled all the 5 door out at the same time due to looks in photos what a turn around after seeing them in the flesh i ordered what i did not like in photos a 5 door shadow blue lol. RedRobin
Great to know I'm getting something right! Rigsby - If you don't manage to see GTIs in the flesh cos there aren't that many around, the next best thing is the same colour on a different Golf model or those coloured wall-mounted metal samples the VW dealers have. The brochure printed colour samples are useless. Must now go out for a drive

Rigsby
Yeah i'll have good look but the Blue Graphite did look the dogs. The garage called me at work to tell me they have a GTI cancelled order that i could have in a few days time, black, manual, no leather just cd/armrest. Think i'll give it a miss but it does get you thinking! I'll let you know tomorrow how i get on with the test drive.

spankit
IMHO the dsg is worth the wait, over the cancelled order'd manual. You could phone round all the dealers to see what cancelled orders they might have
Rigsby
If it had DSG i would have been very tempted, I might ask him tomorrow if he could locate any others for me. I know people have waited longer than 10 weeks but I want it now! (i sound like that kid off Willy Wonka)
spankit
The other option is a private used m4xvw has a nice one in classifieds (you might be able to bring him down a bit). mags had one for sale looked a very good price.
Rigsby
Just got back from test drive....Awesome! I have ordered Blue Graphite,18's,Leather,DSG and armrest. I got paddles but i thought they now come with DSG, instead i had to buy the Multifunction Wheel. The only thing, is that the sales guy has found a car in nearly the same spec, its hasn't got paddles but has cd changer in armrest and parking sensors! The other garage is letting him know if i can have it or not, if yes i could have it within 2 weeks. Not sure what to do now!
Ken1
The blue graphite colour is the business ! The leather and 18"'s and the dsg are the essentials for me anyway , after that I wouldn't care , if I could get it in two weeks I would !

If you know you would prefer the car with the paddles, then wait for it. Are you also prepared to pay extra for the stuff you didn't originally want, like the parking sensors or the armrest multi-CD..?

If you don't want the extra buttons and cruise control (available separately) then your paying £500 for something you don't need.

I have read the update thing the dealers get from VW that states a different wheel with the paddles for o6 model year when DSG is ordered. Also sales guy today confirmed this to me so i would question this if i was you, Maybe its an 2005 model year he can source for you not the 2006 one? Simonl
Paddles DO come as standard now, tell him he is wrong. 2 dealers i know got this wrong. Don't get DSG without paddles mate... whhooooaaa BIG mistake IMO!
Rigsby
Thanks for the advice with paddles guys, i was sure i was right and he even checked with another sales guy for me!! The car at the other garage could be a 05 model, i will have to check. He's calling me back tomorrow to let me know if the other garage is willing to let me have it (if i decide i want it). I know i keep going on about DSG but its fantastic
RedRobin
LeMan is right! DO NOT get DSG without paddles it's what gives you all the flexibility of transmission mode. I don't use Cruise at all (hate it!) but the Multifunction wheel in practice is excellent for adjusting audio volume easily and also zapping around the computer info readout and changing settings (possible while driving if the road conditions are okay). For example seeing how many miles you got left in your fuel tank while driving. Paddles are awesome.
