Sinfield Posted September 26, 2005 Report Share Posted September 26, 2005 There were jubilant scenes on the streets of Spain yesterday as Fernando Alonso, the most famous Spaniard since General Franco, won the F1 world title in Brazil. The Mayor of Alonso’s home town of Oviedo told us: ‘The reaction has been amazing, several people got out of bed on hearing the news and some were still up and awake up to ten minutes later’. Usually it is Moto GP that stirs the Spanish so, but with chimp look-alike Valentino Rossi beating Spain’s Sete Gibernau to the title yet again, the country’s focus is now on Formula One.
