I haven't mate, no. But I haven't tried to ring him since earlier. It might be easier to communicate with him via email?

Don't want to steal the limelight, do you want to continue to organise this and see if he can make it to Harrogate and organise interested TSN members?

It's your find and idea, I leave it up to you. 169144-ok.gif

Sorry guys and gals, I've been working away and I've been a very busy chap. This thread has gone mad while I've been away.

Whoever posted the website, yes that is Will's site.

Will just tried to call me, I've just called him back and left him a voicemail. I'll try to get around to PM'ing you all later on!

Christ this is a long thread!!

Thanks for the great words Ben, pleased that you're.......well pleased!

We seem to keep missing each other on the phone!

Anyone interested or after help/advice just contact me, I'm trying to travel a lot less now, and getting as many customers to come to me as possible.

Anyway, thought I'd drop a line

Regards

Will

Shark can you send me his details?, im not too pleased with this tuning box i have fitted to my 2.5 TDI, Since fitting I have noticed a lot more smoke and a seriously bad vibration from the prop shaft or rear axle when accellerating from low revs, and what seems like an intermittant clutch slip too.

On the plus point though, theres plenty more torque than before.

Cheers

Mike

Hmmm, I had a chat to Shark about these boxes (he's chucked his now, for good reasons)

Plug in boxes are not real tuning. They fool the ECU into thinking more air is being supplied, when its not. The ECU then chucks more diesel into the engine, basically overfuelling it. This will cause black smoke out the back, sometimes poor MPG and harsh power delivery.

Also, may people think that by getting one of these units, your hiding it from warranty problems......afraid not, the technician will see more rail pressure and fuel errors than you can shake a stick at frown.gif

Regards

Well this bit for a start:

[ QUOTE ]

Will tells me the way he does his remaps is by reading the original ECU code, sending it off to a programmer in Germany who looks at the original code and the ECU parameters, and rewrites it accordingly. This is then sent back to Will who then remaps the ECU and Bob's your mother's brother. To remap mine, he did remove the ECU module - NOT the chip, but the entire plug-in module from the engine bay. He told me this was because he'd been doing a remap on a chap's car (which apparently involves the removal of Fuse 11) and when he had VAG-COM on it erasing the consequent fault code, the chap's wife had walked into the garage and trod on his VAG-COM cable, damaging it.

[/ QUOTE ]

So why does this involve a code send to Germany?

Is this remap detectable by dealers?

Why the excessive smoke to begin with(is this normal)?

As i have the same car as Ben would the procedure be the same?

The ECU's software, hardware and checksum numbers/codes must me matched by a programmer.

The map is fully undectable, in regards to diagnostics equipment, to an extreme its possible to read the emissions, but I've never heard of this happening.

They're isn't excessive smoke to start with, maybe a bit more smoke, but this soon stops as the ECU is self adaptive and takes time to adapt to the new fuel settings.

The tuning on your car would hopefully be carried out via your OBD port. Ben's was a slight pain, because my Vag-COM was damaged. It still took a simialar time though, I was against the clock that day, beacause Ben had to shoot off.

Can you tell for sure what the increase is in power after the remap and can it be reversed back to standart?

My tdi is coming up to 90000Mls is there anything i should be worried about in terms of the effects the remap will have in mechanical parts of the car?

[/ QUOTE ]

As Ben said 90,000 miles is no problem. As long as you service it properly and loko after it, you'll be fine.

Reverting to standard is no problem either, I'll give you a copy of your original map, which can uploaded at any point.

I'd also be very interested to go through with a re-map.

Where are you based Will?

Have you got set prices etc?

My car is the same as Ben's (130 TDI), but has 6 gears. Not sure if that means the engine/firmware is slightly different or not.

Hi mate,

I'm in Wolverhampton, charges vary.

I am being careful, because I thought I'd help people on here out (and Ben who has tried to answer as many q's as he could) but I must be careful no to upset any Forum moderators by posting prices or too much company info.

Please feel free to e-mail me for further info
