jonlarge
This is a rant about something I witnessed this evening. Not sure where it should go, so I'll try the Spotted forum. We were coming back from Stansted tonight (17th Oct) up the M11 around 7.30pm. I was in the outside lane doing around 85 when I could see a car in my rear view mirror rapidly approaching. Its main beams were flashing as if to indicate I should pull over. I did and he went past. The car was a silver BMW 1 series I believe. I guess it was doing 95+. It was closely followed by a Mercedes SL, doing a similar speed. Because of the Merc's tailgating I was led to believe it was not a police car as I first thought. So I got behind the Benz. The BMW proceeded to flash at other motorists, to glance all around the sides of cars in front, and to undertake one car and continue at great speed. The Merc and myself went past 100+ for a couple of miles at least trying to keep. This was getting silly. The BMW continued. In case you don't know, this section of the M11 is only dual carriageway so if a lorry is overtaking another lorry then you're buggered...as was the BMW. This fool even sat in the fast lane with it's right indicator on, as if to reinforce it's stupidity. Sadly it worked and he was able to proceed at great speed. We lost him. So my question is - how do unmarked police cars get you to pull over so that they can proceed? Furthermore do the police use 1 series BMWs? I feel a bit peeved that I may have fell foul of some stupid driving. I know we're not supposed to reveal full number plates, but the car that was responsible was a brand new 1 series, reg number EA** CEK. Anyone else any experience of this sort of idiot? JamesB
Don't unmarked police cars have headlights that will alternate when flashing and usually nice blue lights behind the radiator grille?
ian_m
I have to be honest here, I doubt it was a Police car, the is too small for a traffic car and if it was, there would have been blue lights behind the grilles etc! I fear you may have fell foul of some crap driving

garcon magnifique
He can't help it - it's that awful front drive Audi chassis... To answer the original question, by the way you describe it jonny, that BMW really doesn't sound like it was being driven by a policeman. As far as I know, most unmarked traffic cars will have blue strobes behind the grille and/or alternate flashing headlights. Even without those, a police driver can make progress without driving like a tit.
shark_90
Jonny I've seen the same stupid driving this morning, by some yuppie barsteward in a London plated 316ti compact. He went up the arse of everyone in the fast lane on the M1 and flashed and indicated right for them to get out of his way. Then with all his (small engined) might he'd accelerate away to the next car, then repeat. He stopped when I started hassling him. I guess he must have realised what a cock he was being. He slowed down a bit and sat in the middle lane behind me overtaking the occasional car. Idiot.
