gino128
If you were in a position to buy a car for £30k and pride was not an issue (2nd hand 2/3years old) what would you buy form the luxury brands...Audi,BMW,Lexus,Range Rover etc? Must have space for 2 nippers and be a good mix of performance , status and economy!! Answers on a postcard please!

cruiser647
Either A6 3.0 TDi Quat - under 30K???? Or Alfa 166 V6 (2nd hand of course) or Can you get a new style E-Class Merc 320 CDi (2nd hand) for that price or would I have to 'suffer' with the 270CDi? Way to much choice in that price bracket. Like a kiddy in a sweet shop with £5 to spend OR Subaru Legacy???? Don't know if £30K would stretch toan A8 3.0/4.0TDi Quattro? VW Phaeton (easily under £30K 2nd hand)

BrianFD3S
oh well, i'd buy an RX-8 anyway. infact, I'd buy an RX-7 Spirit R and with the spare 10k or so buy an Xbox, PS2, PSP and Nintendo DS and leave the kids at home.
CarMad
Your just down the road from me. You will have to come to the Cheshire meets nr Alderley edge. It all depends what size you are going for. If it was 3 Series sized I'd have a look at the new Lexus IS250 all the kit, nothing will go wrong on it and by the sounds of it will handle really well and won't lose much on it either. If it was a class up then maybe have a look at second hand BMW 5 series or maybe a Lexus GS300 ?? So what size are you looking for and when you say economy is that diesel only or just not some big 4.0ltr ?

NewNiceMrMe
BMW M3 Coupe. 23-24 mpg, superb and unquestionable performance, fun all year round, easily room for 2 adults and 2 children - or 4 adults. On long trips it returns 28-30mpg and you'll get a very nice one for £30k, probably still with plenty of warranty left. If that doesn't float your boat then I'd go along with a BMW 530d for the sheer combination of performance, ride and economy.

ChadW
Are the B4 chasis Audi S4s saloons around 30k yet? If not then 2nd hand Audi A6 3.2 Fsi Quattro.

Must be a bargain and you'd get/have £15K to spare (no, not for repairs/loan cars/fixes...............) Could you live with the look of that LS 430? gino128
[ QUOTE ] Your just down the road from me. You will have to come to the Cheshire meets nr Alderley edge. [/ QUOTE ] I was playing cricket down at Alderley Edge at the end of this season. Where are the meets held? Would love to go. I think Chav said that some meets are held at the Boddington's Arms in Wilmslow but not sure if that is just an Audi thing! As for the car, economy cannot be worse than 25mpg if that is a benchmark (it's what the BM is doing), so I guess a powerful diesel is weapon of choice. What does anyone think to a 2 year old Range Rover HSE TdV6 or the 730D here: 730D Sport ...only another hour and a half to go!!

cruiser647
Hey Gino, I don't think you'd get 25mpg from the RRover. You should from any saloon based exec diesel though. A6/A8/530d/730d/S320CDi/E320CDi/Phaeton TDi

garcon magnifique
gino, I think you'd struggle to get 25mpg from the Rangey - it's the same 3.0d unit as you get in the 3/5/7 series, only the Rangey's twice as heavy. Oh yeah - 0-60 in 15 secs too. Unless you're keen to venture beyond the BMW badge, I doubt you'll find anything to match a 530d or 730d (or a 330d Touring?) and you'll get a better deal on the 3 you've got (if you're PXing). I'd say the 7 if you like BIG cars, the 5 if you want a better handling/performance package.
