Lack of warning Re: new speed limit

There's a road near here where, for a short stretch, the speed changes from 40mph to 60mph and then down to 30mph.

Today I had to drive that road on my way to the Shell garage [and as noted elsewhere on this forum, the price of Optimax has jumped recently!]. I came round the corner in the 40mph limit and stuck my foot down to speed up to 60-65mph... and then halfway along the stretch came across a small 30mph repeater sign stuck to a tree. I don't recall seeing a 30mph sign in the place of the normal National Speed Limit sign, but I wasn't really looking for it.

I didn't come back the same way, but did cross the end of the road so I could see that the National Speed Limit signs have been taken down at that end, but no new 30mph sign had been put up in their place.

Nice of them to put up some sort of notice warning drivers that recently the speed limit had been halfed, wasn't it?

I got my first sP30 in that way; a road normaly 40mph in west London just had its signs removed so became a 30. Used to live just off of that road a few years back and was used to doing 42-44mph... At the time I was comming back from a funeral of a relative so I guess I was on autopilot but this time round cops waiting with a radar gun... imagine my surprise openfire.gif

Though the cop felt sorry for giving me the points and fine at the end when I explained why, but I just took the points and I regret that now sportifs2.gif

A streetlight road, unless indicated otherwise by repeater signs every two lamps, is 30mph. I think that's correct

It`s usually a safe assumption.

The road I was talking about has no street lights and no pathway. It looks like your average national speed limit type road.

Us Northerners have just been given the same dilema. When coming down the A167 from the A1 nearing the Cowgate roundabout the slight uphill residential dual carriageway stretch that used to have a Gatso now has one of those speed indicator boards which flashes at you enough to induce a fit when doing over 30. So you would assume that it is a 30 zone until you see every other lamp post 40mph signage. So which is it, 30 mph or 40mph??

Feckin useless beaurocrats between local council and police!

Wouldn't that deem a speeding ticket invalid with two signs (Well one just saying your speeding) saying diffrent speed limits?

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably, my car seems to have trouble keeping to either really so I'm hoping the two cancel each other out considering my dilema.
