redbaron
Hi all, I am finally picking up my GTi next weekend (arrives on Wed but collecting it on Sat morning). Have read Jamiey's post about asking for bottle opener, free oil & tankful of Optimax, but need your help with a couple of q's: 1. Is the maintenance pack worth getting? And how much does it cost? 2. How much have people paid for their GAP/Return to invoice insurance (stealer wants £329 for it!)? Thanks!
WhiteHArtMart
Not long now - bet you can't wait! Can't comment on the maintenance pack (but have decided not to bother). Not too sure but from memory it would have cost me in excess of £30 per month. As for the GAP - I got my dealer down to £225. Just said I could get it cheaper on the web! RedRobin
Maintenance pack costs about £26 p.month IIRC and that's the full everything-included version. It's calculated on your expected mileage and therefore likely servicing costs. Imo GAP is defo worth it and you can negotiate up to a point. rowley
Red, I'm thinking of getting the maint pack. I was told on Saturday whilst getting my Mark III serviced that there are 3 levels - silver, gold and Platinum. Servicing guy wasn't sure at the time what the diffs are. Do you happen to know. He suggested that the silver started at £11 a month.... Cheers Rowley
dazdot
I took out the maintenance package. All servicing and tyres (10,000mpa) £21.00 per month. Tyres alone could cost that.
RedRobin
Hi Rowley, To be honest, I've forgotten. I've got the literature somewhere but not to hand....Anyone else answer this? I remember thinking that it seemed much more worthwhile to buy the whole package.
redbaron
Thanks for the info. £21/month all in does sound like a good price, especially as tyres for the RX8 were £150 each! Searched on t'internet for GAP insurance, and the cheapest price I got was £196, so will see if the stealer can match it. Only a few days left now..... redbaron
Was at the dealers this afternoon to sort out the paperwork. First thing I saw as I drove in was my GTi! Pic of my Laser Blue pride & joy attached. Pick her up on Sat am - can't wait any longer.... Eventually got the dealer down to £225 for the GAP insurance, but only after being told "I can't go any lower than £299 sir". Ha! Off to plan a route for Saturday's drive. silentandy
Looking good. You must have one of the last laser blues. Still don't understand why that colour has been discontinued (specially when I was going to get that colour )

I'm too busy at work at the mo for tomorrow to drag! But def. expecting a sleepless night though. Salesman is putting Optimax in the tank for me, said he couldn't promise a full tank, but would put in as much as he thinks he can get away with. Will see if the dealer has any info on the Laser blue discontinuation, but am v. happy with the colour. Top choice by me! Come on Saturday.... Why it took so long I have no idea - sure ask me a few questions to confirm my identity, but it doesn't take that long to hit the OK button. Got it all sorted in the end though, and only a few hours left till the morning now. Nice key ring by the way.
winrya
you guys recommend optimax then??? Does it not like 95 OCT fuel?
RedRobin
....It'll run on 95RON but the engine management is all optimised for 98. Some users have reported slightly better performance and mpg with Optimax but I can't confirm that as guaranteed. I play it safe and exclusively use Optimax. It also has detergents which help engine life.

I was thinking to myself "I'm so glad I went to Central it was totally painless and no hassle" I hope the rest of the experience was better. You'll love the motor it's a real grower. Didn't get a full tank of Optimax, but at least I had my bottle opener and free oil. The handover on Sat am was swift and painless - couldn't wait to get out onto the road!
