presume you are using a lappy - if so then you need to make sure that the lappy always gets the same ip. I think i probably have the same router as you and what you can do is set the ip to be reserved (think thats what its called in the router setup). That was the problem with my VNC connection as the router was pointing the port to a non-existent pc.

What else is running on 3389 then? Do netstat -a -b from your command prompt and look at port 3389, here's mine for comparison, I have RDP turned on.
