Build week slipping because of DSG

Welcome 8-legged DJ (does that make you a music loving spider?)....

A loooong time ago there were stories/facts (I dunno) that VW had underestimated demand for the DSG and there were consequently delays with orders needing DSG. Unless VW UK release/publish hard info we can only speculate and cannot trust a dealer/salesman about what he tells us necessarily.

Having said that, it is quite feasible that demand on DSG has far exceeded expectation and has grown dramatically as drivers experiencing it are singing its praises....So, it's all my fault then!!

Just spoken to my stealer and my build week has slipped from week 47 to week 49 - should expect delivery now in January - Gutted.

Apparently this is because of a problem with DSG supply. They are not taking DSG orders now until March 2006. Has anyone heard about this?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes VW UK have a team dealing with customers & dealers regarding this issue who are liasing with the factory. Can't confirm they are not taking DSG orders till March 2006 though.

Maybe its a result of your endorsement of DSG Red, plus the fact that VW are putting DSG into everything that moves.

New Jetta (Jan launch here I think) and new Passat (mid year launch in Australia) must add significantly to the demand.

I might be cynical here but maybe VW think they could move some of their GTI orders around a bit to ensure availablity of DSG for these other cars. GTI owners, given the 'speciality' nature of their car might be a bit more inclined to wait than someone wanting a Passat or Jetta.

Don't know just a thought.

Red, You're not alone in praising the DSG and adding to the delivery woes.....

Off to see a mate across the weekend who really wants a GTI. Currently he is havering- Captain Sensible is saying to him go for the 2.0 FSI.

I reckon an hour or so behind the wheel of my GTI will see him change his mind.

His DSG (should he order it) will take up to 10 months to deliver so he''ll have plenty of extra time to save those additional pennies while he waits.

Hi ajwo,

Apparently so. I was told by the dealer I got my car through that the wait depended on the specs. If it was a full house or standard car then the typical wait would be six months or so. Any customised cars - mixing and matching the available options could add a further 12 weeks. I'm just glad I moved quickly on mine when I did.

Anyway, you're almost half way there - and Christmas/New Year will probably divert you a bit.

Tyresmoke will also keep you in the groove. It seems quite a few UK members are expecting their cars shortly.

Always remember - its worth it!!!!

I ordered during the first week of June and was given a delivery date of early January 2006. I subsequently received a call from the dealer that the car was being built Week 37 and would be available for delivery at the beginning of December. Unfortunately the car wasn't built during Week 37 and VW Australia are yet to advise the dealer of a new build date. Hopefully the car will arrive in January or February. Fortunately my current novated lease doesn't expire until early February, so a later delivery isn't the end of the world. I am desperate to drive the GTI again as I had such a great time during my three hour test drive (although I was sold after 10 minutes of driving).

Welcome Country Boy,

Well at least it seems you have done your planning well as far as the notavted lease goes.

The ownership experience is great - I've had mine since 2/7, I love it. DSG takes a little while to really get the feel of.

I don't mean to sound too smart about this but are you sure you were given the right info re the week 37 build date? If your car was schedulled to be built in Week 37 and it was scheduled to be delivered in early January that means there is about 16 to 18 weeks between build and supply.

My car has a South African build date of March 2005 (sometime between Week 9 and 13). It arrived in Australia before the end of May because I drove it on the 26/5 at the dealer. I didn't want the car until the new financial year so it was the dealer demo for a month. (I know the dealer personally - so this was no issue for me).

This means that at worst (assuming my car was built on March 1 (Week 9) and arrived the day before I drove it on May 25th (Week 19/20) my car took a maximum of 11 weeks to get from SA to Oz.

Unless my dates are way out of whack I'm wondering if you were given the correct build date info to start with. Your car would be something like an early Septermber build for an early January delivery.

Reading the other posts from the UK guys on TSN it seems to be they are getting much quicker deliveries. I guess there isn't as far to travel between Germany and Britain.

Anyway whatever the story, the wait will be worth it I can assure you.

Thanks for the welcome OzGTI

Originally I was given a delivery date of early January but this later changed to early December when my dealer was notified of the Week 37 build. That would have made it approximately 11 weeks from build to delivery including the week added for transporting the vehicle to country NSW.

[ QUOTE ]

have you spoken to them

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, apparently a bulletin went out to stealers last week re DSG orders. You

need to speak to stealer first. If you do speak to VW UK they will ask for your 6 digit consignment number in order to check your individual order status, if its slipped etc. Good luck.

I have that number, it was on my order. But my car is still stuck in germany according to VW UK.

I was wondering whether my order slipped a week because of the DSG shortage. Although no one seems to want to admit that.

White Hart stole my gearbox!.... give it back!

Went to the stealers to check progress. Was told it is at assembly stage 5 which is strange as it means the build may have come forward unless there's a stage 12 which is where do we find a DSG ?? Hope not.

Anybody know what the other stages are before its classed as finally built ? ( before awaiting shipment etc.)
