Finally Ordered! - DSG Delay....not good

Hello All,

Finally ordered my GTI yesterday - got 5% discount too which I was happy with.

Ordered: GTI 5DR, DSG, Blue Graphite, 18", Zenon's, Anthracite Grey Leather, Climatronic (Kept Sunroof), Parking, Multi Function Wheel, Folding Mirrors & Storage.

Dealer was very good - he called VW guy 2 times during our chat and was able to speak direct with guy that order's GTI's for Ireland in VW and he confirmed all my questions on the spot.

He showed me memo sent out from VW re DSG and it basically says that there is a delay until further notice - nothing about not accepting orders though.

VW (Very sly) add on 1% inflationary rise at this time of year and this is based on build date so even though I agree a price there and then the dealer bascally told me to add on 1%. He gave me 5% on everything and will do my Alarm, Car Kit & Tracker at cost when it arrives for delivery.

Delivery wise, he said if on normal delivery I would have had mid February but now with DSG delay expect late March.

Wife might not be happy as our new family member is due early April laugh.gif

Anyway, thats the news...

Keep on posting!

Paddy

....So it looks like an extra 6 weeks to the usual 12 weeks delivery time = 18 weeks approx until further notice. I wonder how long the DSG delay will continue for.

Its been 7 weeks now since I ordered my GTI and paid the deposit. The dealer has never been in touch with me, and I'm always having to ring them (really believe this should be the other way around). Everytime I've spoken to them they've fobbed me off with allocation yadayada.... best excuse was that becuase I changed my order 2 weeks in to add highline that added a big delay....

Did most people who've got their GTI at least get a build date or an courtesy update within 7 weeks?

Very frustrated!

Cheers!

Most people as far as I know received a "Your car will be built during the week starting on date X/month Y" and this information is usually given about 2 weeks after the date of deposit with order. Furthermore, at the time of order & deposit the dealer states he will know start date in a couple of weeks.

It really sounds as if your dealer is not behaving as he should....Try contacting VW UK at Milton Keynes and say you are not happy about this lack of service.

I had no built date for my car whatsoever. Ordered in Dec last year and told it would be delivered at the beginning of March. When March came was told it would be the end and then 5 days before end of March was told it was not even built. To that end I cancelled my order and took a pre ordered one and had it within 3 days. The only downside to this is that the spec may not be your original choice. There are plenty available though if you ask your dealer so you have a good choice of spec. For me it worked out well as I prefer the choice I have now as opposed to my original order which was red with interlagos cloth.

In my opinion the dates are meaningless until it is actually built because they can just change them. For instance, the current delay in DSG, I doubt that was planned so many peoples original delivery dates will have gone out the window and the new dates they give you will not be 100% accurate and can change.

I meant that I had assumed that all VW dealers were supposed to offer the same standard of customer service and that whether that standard was good or poor, that it would be consistently good or consistently poor throughout the network. The standard I received (being well informed of start date for build) was both better and different from both yours and rowley's....Hence inconsistency of standard.

Sorry if I wasn't clear and hope I am now! smile.gif

Yep, that makes more sense mate. There is no consistency within the VW group (UK) but my actual dealership is consistently crap.

I had to reject my first MK 5 Golf (not a GTI) due to the boot not correctly aligned. The first solution was to put it on a jig (brand new car), I think not. The service managers answer for the problem was that it is a mass produced car and that is what you should expect and 3 in 5 VW's are like that. Hopefully not all dealers are like this.

Should have learnt my lesson after this but still bought the GTI from them. However, if I do get an R32 which is looking highly likely at the moment (test drive pending) I will be going else where.

I noticed that you mentioned an interest in the new R32 earlier. If it had been available when I ordered my GTI I would very likely have got one. It's the 4WD and V6 sound that I like. I loved my straight-6 BMW's sound. I don't much fancy the fuel consumption though and would immediately want to change the alloys and fit Millteks! I would def consider the R32 for my next car but not for a while yet....I really love my GTI. So, you are still going ahead with Milltek exhaust on your GTI and, I assume, will soon sell it?

Yep, still going for the Milltek as deposit paid etc. Was not really interested in the R32 but it has grown on me. You may remember from MrMe's post when he asked if and why some GTI owners were selling their cars and I was one of the ones who was considering it.

I have never been 100% happy with the GTI, not unhappy with it either mind. I have come close to trading it in on 2 occasions but didnt in the end because both times the potential new car didnt quite have what I want. I am hoping the R32 does and if it does I will be getting one.

It does sound very likely that the R32 will offer you what you want. Mostly because it will doubtless include much of what you are happy with in the GTI being the same Mk5 body accommodation. 4WD, V6, Recaros, 3.2 and plenty of power are the pluses imo. Test drive is of course the only way to decide. I've been offered a test drive too but I'll be taking Captain Sensible with me!

Good Luck!! 169144-ok.gif

We shall see. It is not necessarily power that I am after. I am after a car that gives me a wow factor every time I get in it and drive it. The GTI doesnt quite do this. I cant explain why, it is just one of those things. I work abroad for 6 months of the year (6 weeks at a time) and I want a car that I will look forward to driving when I come home, the GTI does not do that. I have 6 weeks at a time of no work and want to enjoy it to its full potential. I suppose it is a bit like having a daily runabout and then a weekend car, that is what I want, a weekend car, only it will be a 6 week long weekend at a time.

Having said this, for any potential GTI owners, I am not saying the car is crap, it is far from it. Just I want something more.

I'm happy to say that I feel that 'wow factor' every time I get in my GTI. It just shows how subtley different we all are. I almost feel withdrawal symptoms if a day goes by without me having a reason to take her out of the garage and driving....I'll look for any excuse! It hasn't changed after 4,000 miles and 3 months and I'm sure others here also feel the same.

I sincerely hope you find your own 'wow' car, mate.

Can i just point out that it does not matter what dealer you buy the car from you can take it too any dealer for warranty work. A new dealer a different one to the supplying dealer often goes out to impress if you take your car to them, so that you may come back next time or buy your next car from them.

Alot of people and im not saying this is the case here often think you have to take the car back to the supplying dealer this is not the case. Also worth of note in most dealerships the workshop/service department is run as a seperate department or even buisness so again its not like it makes a difference.

Snoopy,

Agree with you on that one and I did know that. However, in my case it was best to go back to the supplying dealer because my intention was to reject the car if they couldnt sort it. The agreement/contract whatever you want to call it is between yourself and the supplying dealer. I could not have rejected the car at another dealership. Also, VWUK will not get involved in these instances, they insist it is between you and the dealer. Rejecting a car is a very tiresome process and should be the last resort. I had to hire a solicitor and it took a good few months to sort.

I know exactly what he is talking about and the difference between warranty work and rejecting a car.

But if you read through the threads on this post there is nothing about anyone having any warranty work carried out and Snoopy refers to a certain case quote "im not saying this is the case here" so I am assuming he must have been refering to my post on the problems I had.

I was simply pointing out that if you have problems that need fixing and it may result in a rejection of the car you need to do this with the supplying dealership.

Agreed. Were you the man who's DSG box never worked? frown.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, the problem was with a MK 5 Golf GT TDI. Basically the boot door was not aligned correctly and the dealer could not fix it. They tried lots of different solutions including removing it, removing the glass etc and were intending putting it on a jig. This was a brand new car.

My point is that I could have gone to another dealer to try and get it fixed under warranty but if they were unsuccessful I would have had to go back to the original dealer. Part of the rejection process is that you have to give the supplying dealer sufficient oppurtunity to rectify the problem first before you can reject. It is not a case of saying this is bust, I want a new one.

As for the GTI, I have had no major problems, the only problem was a faulty fuel pump which I believe has been a common fault on some of the early models (certainly a couple of others on here have had the same problem) and this was replaced under warranty with no great problems.

I would put money on it that some guys on here have the same fault with their boot doors but have not noticed as I have certainly seen a few like it, some worse than others. Easy way to check is make sure the rear lights on the pillars are flush with the ones on the boot door. On some they sit high oneside and low the other side.

Hi Ken,

You don't miss a trick - when I was writing down what I had ordered, I knew there was something I missed! I did indeed order the armrest.

Ordered from Foster's - it was nearly €47,900 on the road (full tank of fuel too;-)) and I got it for €45.5 - he has a P/N for the storage pack (under seat drawers etc) so that was not on there but we said no more than €100.

Got a great deal on Nokia kit, Alarm and Tracker too.

Now just hope a few % comes off VRT in budget...and hope, and hope...

Paddy
