golftdi184
Hi everyone, I’m after some advice on the suspension for my 2003 Golf Tdi 130. It has been taken to 184 Hp with an AMD chip and Milltek exhaust system. I also fitted 18 inch alloys and had H&R sports springs fitted to lower it about 35 – 40mm. The problem is now that the dampers don’t match the springs and the ride quality is crap. It wallows round corners and isn’t fun to drive at all. I now realise that I should have been tight in the first place and should have fitted complete new suspension. So now I’m left with the question of what one to go for. The place that did all the work on it before will fit H&R Coil-Overs for £899. Any ideas if that’s any good? Any advice greatly appreciated. I'm interested in your remap though, that's a nice hike in power and I wonder what you have found the pros and cons to be of having it!
golftdi184
Hi, Thanks for the welcome. The car was re-programmed by AMD in Bicester. The pre-tune figures for my golf showed it had 139 hp. After the re-map and exhaust it showed at 184. Loads more torque too. The pros were much smoother power throughout out the rev range, slightly better mpg, fast 0-60, faster top end (I think the speedo has shown 144 mph before, not on a public road though of course!). The only con that I can think of was the £899 hole in my bank account after they had done it.
R32North
Might also want to consider ARB upgrade and brakes, pads at least!
golftdi184
I was actually amazed with how well the standard discs and pads worked. It pulls up very quickly and never has brake fade. My previous car was a Civic type R and I did notice they weren’t as good when I changed though. I had thought about getting these when I upped the power http://www.amdtechnik.com/product.details.cfm?ProductID=644&VariantID=129&ReferenceID=3299 but thought it might have been a bit overkill

Granted diesel cars have better brakes in many cases as the diesel engines are heavier, but at least ditch the VW pads and get something on there that will improve the level of braking power.
