SMB
I ask as , whilst sat on the lovley M25 car park last night due to M3 closure, I noticed that the exhaust note on mine 2006 car is different if the clutch is engaged or not whilist in neutral ( I did a lot of into first , out of first gear last night) and there is definately a difference, with clutch pedal released car is much quieter. It's not the clutch release bearing, it's definately a change in exhaust note. No noticeable difference in engine speed or idle smoothness though. Car is a manual not DSG btw. Anyone else noticed this?
Simonl
It's possible. When parked, look up the pipes- If it's there you'll see it closed. My A3 used to have one. Tried the old "freezer clip method" to keep it permanently open... but didn't sound much different IMO, bit more BOOOMY! but then again, it was a big V6!
