NunchukHamster
Morning all. Quick one, hopefully! I have a 1.8T Sport. Do I have to do something specific to make the heated mirrors work, or are they connected to the rear screen heater switch? The rear window defrosts, but the mirrors don't seem to. karlosthejackal
On the switch for adjusting the mirrors there are three positions, when the switch is in the centre position, the heating element should be on.
asta
As far as i can tell they aren't linked to the rear screen demister at all. They heat up whenever you start the car. I think they are time-set and swith off after a set amount of time. Maybe mine are broken.
zchybrid
Yeah, mine have the little heated mirror picture on the mirror control but they dont seem to work (if it has them) My cars a 2000 TDi SE.... ??
jojo
I have a 2000 TDI 115 SE, mine definitely works with the rear screen demister and the mirror adjuster knob in the central position, maybe the elements in your wing mirror glass have broke? karlosthejackal
I have been told that few people realise that the centre position on the mirror switch is actually for the heater elements and inadvertently leave them switched on continually, therefore burning out the elements. Not sure if this is true as my old passat did not have this feature, and on my current car they work fine.
ocrp
Mine work fine with the door knob in the middle position. It's very easy to forget about them and leave them on, which apparantly burns them out.
Waitey
I thought even in the on position they only came on when you switched the rear demister on.
kentzer
Mine only came on when you had the rear window heater on, even though I left the adjust switch in the centre position all the time. You could tell by the amount of steam that came off the mirror surface when the rear window was on - there was no steam until I flicked the switch for the rear window! I miss the feature on the Golf :-( Cheers Ben
pritesh
aye mine works the same! i noticed the steam comming off the mirrors this morning when the rear was de-misting!
NunchukHamster
Guess something isn't working then - tried all combinations of rear de-mist switch and the mirror control. Fusebox here I come.
karlosthejackal
Just been out to check, mine definitely work without the rear de-mister on.
Waitey
might be different on older models mines x reg 1.8T.
