danksy
I read in Autocar that MG are trying to kick start production of the TF, and ZT cars. Apparently to meet the Euro 4 emissions standards they may be using Audi engines.
AZURES3
That will do the Audi brand the world of good. Do you remember the old SEAT badges " Powered by system Porsche" Are we going to see Rovers driving round with "Powered by system Audi" AZ

malagus
thats a point - what is Nanjing auto doing with the MGRover group at the moment? didn't they say production plans would be launched by now??
R32North
Don't know why Rover don't go back to using Honda engines!!
silentandy
I haven't kept up with the news on this. Are they planning to make them at Longbridge or elsewhere? Wasn't there some pics posted not long ago of inside Longbridge, it looked like a ghost town..
MikeA2B
heh heh......vorsplung dulgh blitish reyrand. Suprised they havent contacted briggs & stratton for their engines, looking at the citirover thats all they will need!!!!
NeilB
They said production would commence at Longbridge once again, fat chance of that as the stuff is been shipped to China.
theduisbergkid
The MGF was the only thing left that had a cat in hells chance of being made again. That said, they have nothing to start with, no tools, no plant, nothing. I hope that something good comes of this mess, but to be honest, who would buy a MG / Rover now anyway ? They have no image, no market and no outlets .... a tall order for anyone to bring them back from the dead !

shark_90
Using Audi engines wouldn't be a bad thing for Rover if you ask me. I had an MG ZS for a while and it wasn't too bad. I'm impressed with the 75 too, after all that one was designed by BMW and had their diesel engine. Rover being complete crap is a misconception IMO
Thorburn
and yet they are bringing back the MG TF, which really wasn't much cop.... And without the K-series engine which in reality wasn't bad.
rhyds
The 75 was not designed by BMW, it was designed by a rover team with BMW money, look at www.austin-rover.co.uk for the full story The main problem with the original MGF was its running gear, basically it was a pretty convertable shell mounted on two Rover Metro front subframes, compete with hydragas suspension, but a bit of lowering/stiffening would probably sort it out
simonb
I heard that the last TF was quite good. In fact i found May 2005's issue of What Car the other day and was having a flick through. It basically said the 'new' MG TF was the best MGF/MGTF yet. A week later they closed down. simonb
I think that the 'TSN consortium' should get together and buy MG. Insurance Jon, MrMe and Woppum could be the backers - the rest of us senior management and we could make a proper sports cars between us. Just don't let TriGGa be the marketing man - can see it now - 'buyz yo'self an MGeeee as they're gr8 carz' hahaha

danksy
Rover K series were very good engines.. Lotus used them, as well as caterham to name a few
R32North
I don't think there has been an MG TF that could be classed as good.
rhyds
The last TFs used conventional springs which sorted a lot of the problems out, and with regard to the K series, the guys at powertrain (engines branch) new EXACTLY what needed doing to keep the K reliable, but management didn't want to finance it

simonb
That was Rovers downfall. Even when they went under and all the workers were laid off - the management still ensured that they each had a nice leaving present!
