NewNiceMrMe
The lights on my Avant are not Xenons. When driving the car yesterday I noticed they're very dim. That could be because I'm used to the Bi-Xenons of the 6...but I don't think so. Do any of you change the bulbs for something a little brighter? Anyone else not impressed with the light output of the standard car?
A3Floyd
Had the same problem with my A4 coming from the S3 with xenons. They appear to be SOOOOOOO dim. I'm sure that they should be a bit brighter. Gonna try putting some uprated bulbs in and see if they make a difference. Glad i'm not the only one thats noticed! shark_90
Osram Silverstars should make all the difference Chris. A fecker to fit yourself though. Also I've noticed that when the headlights are dirty it really, really impairs the lights. A quick wipe and they're much better.
NewNiceMrMe
Hmm, I can't recall if it has headlamp washers or not. I suspect not, I'll have to check that when I go out.
CarMad
Yep the Osrams are good. But make sure if you are going to get some bulbs go for the 50% brighter ones and not the Xenon alikes. They are actually only 30% brighter due to the extra coating extra that they use on the bulbs.
Soapsuds
MrMe - i found the same issue! I have installed some Philips GT150 bulbs and blue sidelights and it has made a great difference! (see mini review). The light cascaded is near bright white (compared to the dull yellow) and the distance projected is very good indeed! In fact, on full beam they remind me of my Disco with a bank of spots!! (ok, not quite that good.... ) I did the same upgrade on my last car too - feels much safer. Only thing i have noticed is that i need to keep the lenses very clean in this weather, as they go very dull and yellow again through the salt / crap on the roads!!! Hope that helps! Of course, some think bulb changes are pointless - suppose its down to eyesight / expectation....? I recon ist £60 well spent.....
shark_90
I imagine it doesn't.. but the crud on the roads at the moment takes a good portion of elbow grease to shift anyway, so I imagine the washers wouldn't help that much anyway. Sparky
MrMe, I find the headlight bulbs on Audi's and VW's to be poor. I'll be changing the standard bulbs soon.

Sparky
Yes. They'll charge you for labour. Last quote I got was £20 to change the headlight bulbs, but the car was in for other things anyhoo.
NewNiceMrMe
It won't cos me personally and I'd not attempt anything like this myself anyway. So by asking them to fit brighter bulbs in the headlights they'll know what I want and can do it?
Sparky
You'd be best specifying the bulbs, or even ordering them from www.powerbulbs.com first. They told me to bring in the bulbs, leave them on the passenger seat and they'll give me back the OEM ones and I'd settle the £20 bill on collection. Unlike Sheffield Audi who couldn't be arsed, but then said it would cost £45 per hour and couldn't say how long it would take!!! Get the right dealer, and it's fine! They are easy enough to change following UBM's guides, but you have to have hands the size of a gnats chuff to get into remove one side.
shark_90
£45 per hour? They charged me £89.99/hour+VAT on Friday
Sparky
The £45 per hour was additional to the usual rate.
UBM
Chris - we've done the bulbs to death on here recently. The GT150 Philips are pretty good actually! They look a bit more stylish than the silverstars. Bulb fitting instructions can be found in the A4 essential collection on page 3....
Soapsuds
It is a VERY easy job too....... mine need to come out again soon to pop in the Osram blue indicator bulbs!! Just follow the instructions word for word - 10 mins each side in good light.... (no pun intended)
