GBWilliams
I need, for reason I shall explain, to be able to prove the standard hours to remove and refit rad fans on a 2002 GTI 150 bhp diesel golf (with climatronic). Can anyone access this for me in the form of a photocopy or scanned document? My friends Warranty Holdings are quoting me 0.7 hours (40 minutes) to disconnect/drain cooling system/remove front end of vehicle/remove rad/ remove fans.... and reassemble! The garage took almost three hours (some time of which was arguing with Warranty Holdings). Unless i can provide clear proof in the form of a statement for VW authenticated times they will not accept that 40 mins is wrong. I believe the VW time is 2.7 hours. The fact that a) the job took that long b) it has been done before on other cars and took a similar time and c) at £34/ hr, it doesn't allow me to use main dealers who have access to this information...... carries no weight. (I apologise for posting this under a new topic, but my original was getting rather lengthy and I though this plea might not be noticed). I guess the best way to contact me is via private messages? Many thanks... I am indebted to this forum, it's been great!
R32North
You'd never do all that in 40 mins!!! We do have VW techs on here, who would know exactly how long this would take. However, I'm sure if you pop into a VW garage and ask they'll provide written confirmation for you.
GBWilliams
Thanks for your response SixDegrees. So far I've found VW dealers very reluctant to put anything in writing. Recently my dealer would not confirm that my long-life service regieme was correct for the car (although they had all the service history and actually set it up originally). I had to contact VW Group Customer Service. Got the impression this was a legal thing. (suprise: it was Warranty Holdings who were asking for this info). mulkbear
0.7 time units is right, sorry i cannot get that in writing Us VW tech's have secrets and we can do them in 40 mins
Wobby
So you do it in 0.7hr but charge 2.7hr??? Typical VW! But you cant remove the front end and radiator and replace it in that time. I thought you would have only just got as far as the kettle on and the biscuits out in 0.7 hrs
GBWilliams
But it's not right! I have had confirmation today from VW Customer Services that for my model diesel the standard time is 2.4hrs. Awaited in writing.
GBWilliams
PS - I was originally quoted by my main dealer "probably just able to change both fans and controller in a day" Ah I see, the controller must take 8 hrs less the .7 for the fans lets say 7 hours, allowing for the biscuits.
