RedRobin
Not to worry....There's an unwritten rule here that when you have 'double posted' three times you have to donate your GTI to the person in this forum with the most posts. I'm only joking of course You probably already know now that others are seeing their First Service notice at around 10,000 miles. Welcome by the way! Hope you are enjoying your GTI and that our ramblings here are of some help.
Bungle
You have a choice of service plan, which can be reset by your dealer. Variable service works on how hard the car is driven, and should require a service between 12k & 18k. These services are all main services, and alternate between £230 & £280. Alternatively they can be set to time & date, which operates either annually or 10,000 miles. In this instance the sequence is as follows :- Service 1 (1 year or 10k) Oil change (£100) Service 2 (2 Years or 20k) Main service 1 (£230) Service 3 (3 years or 30k) Oil Change (£100) Service 4 (4 Years or 40k) Main Service 2 (£280) Then the cycle starts again. Before anyone asks, Im not sure of the difference between main service 1 & main service 2. Essentially its similar to the BMW approach ie Oil/Insp1/Oil/Insp2 My preference is for time & date as the Oil gets changed more frequently. Snoopy
I do think the cost of the services for the GTI are a bit expensive when compared to similar car by different brands in the VW enpire.
pingpongpo
[ QUOTE ] Sorry, I dont understand the question. [/ QUOTE ] You said you prefered timed servicing rather than variable because the oil gets changed more often, but my point was that the oil used in timed servicing isn't as good quality...... Bungle
The oil used is exatly the same quality in the time & date based service as it is with the variable (aka Longlife) With Time & Date servicing it gets changed every 10k or 1 year, with variable it gets changed every 12 - 18k, depending on how hard the car is driven. [/ QUOTE ] I think you'll find most dealers use a different oil for Time & Date servicing on Petrol engines which hasn't the quality standard of Longlife because its not formulated to last up to 2 years unlike Longlife. They normally use a fully synthetic ( VW 502.00 / 505.00 ) on 10,000/1Yr based servicing.
simkna
Would have thought the stealing b*ggers would just bung in whichever was cheapest regardless of service type, but just charge more. Si.
