1 LITRE OF OIL EVERY 800-1000 MILES

I'm driving an 03 plate 2.8 QS with 30K on the clock and going through 1 litre of oil every 800-1000 miles. The dealer is going to have a look at it but wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

There are no obvious external oil leaks (driveway is drip clean) or oil in the water. Haven't checked for smoke from the exhaust yet tho.

Its still under warranty so if it is serious it should get sorted.

Any ideas?

Thats about right its supposed to do consume that level of oil, its stated in your owners manual... don't worry about it and don't let Parklands tell you otherwise NONO3.GIF

Just make sure your using the correct oil 169144-ok.gif

But seeing as its on warranty stick it to the stealer openfire.gif

Mine used 0.50001134573 litre at 619 miles ... should I be worried as it's slightly out of tollerance?

Indeed you should EEK2.GIFEEK2.GIF

The Audi workshop manual states consumption @ 0.50001134573 litre at 620 miles!!!

Do you think you could have misread the mileage?

You're correct it is. Nowt wrong with ripping the p!ss tho! grin.gif

It was said that fully synthetic oil was the prob. This has been rubbished...apparently? Chuck in some semi-synthetic and see if that does owt, that’s what I say.... (Is that clear enough to the gang the other side of the ocean?)

Eh Eh calm down. If its any consolation I bought my 2000 4.2S with 117,841 on the clock & had it serviced at the stealers to keep the full history up. 2500 miles later I'm staring at the low oil level light at 80mph in the fast lane. The stealers got both barrels from me for not filling it but they confirmed to me Audi had changed (Dec 2004) to fully synthetic for my car.

I changed it to 05-40w Castrol semi synthetic and held my breath. Thankfully she calmed down to gulping 1.5litre every 1000 miles or two tankfulls of optimax. Now showing 141,564 oil consumtion has not worsened. Semi-synthetic may cut your consumption. Its cheaper than an engine re-build.

Keep top'in.

Not wanting to put the cat among the pegions, but, I have not owned a car that drank oil like you say, Last cars owned: A6 avant 2.5TDI/S8 audi/928GTS porsche/ RX300se lexus/ GS300se lexus/and now A8TDI and Vectra 1.9TDI,none have used much if any oil. I ran the S8 up to 140K miles used vertually no oil, the guy that has it now in ipswich has 179K miles on it and he says it uses none!!!. I must have been lucky by all accounts. ROLLEY~14.GIF PS it did get a new Auto-box at 132K though SAUER0421.GIF

Having switched from fully synthetic to semi synthetic my 2000 S8 oil consumption is still excessive.(SEE OIL CONSUMPTION THREAD)There is no leak and no smoke. It passed its emissions test at the MOT last january. The audi dealer says time to strip the engine(at 40k miles). What I don't get is where the oil could be going? It runs fine!Any ideas? And anyone know how much for a new engine....

Its going in to take the heads off.I will let you know the outcome. Also developed all kinds of electrical problems due to wet electrics around the main ecu.Got that fixed and now the tiptronic buttons do not work.Again thought to be faulty/damp connectors. It is turning into a bit of a nightmare...It's got to the point I cannot ignore the oil consumption though-it's using a lot more than .5l per 600miles(of semi synthetic).Oh what joy... crazy.gifconfused.giffrown.gif

Well chaps, the 8 went into the dealers today for an assesment and sure enough they have identified the oil is dissapearing through the valve seals.

Going to take 2 days to replace all of them! Good job its under warranty. How many is there in a 2003 / 2.8 V6?
