Ken1
Barry, Would you believe I had one and got it at the start of August 2002. I reckon I was one of the first as I changed my order from a 150 to 180. Easily spotted as they are all 6 speed boxes ! Nice motor mine was too!!! allanon_1980
so it seems the stealer sold him a GTI as a 180bhp when in fact its only a 150bhp, whether its chipped to 180 or its a stock 150bhp I dont know !! I know if it were me id would be heading right back to the dealers

SMB
even if they claim it's chipped to 180 , the engine internals are different
Mollox
That's right, the 180 should be running the K03 "s" turbo
shao_khan
I thought the first 180s were in the GOlf Anniversary models in the UK.
Mollox
I was thinking that too...marked out by their bodykit, different wheels and retro badging, as well as the 180bhp variant engine. Can't remember if they were 5 speed though, I suspect they might have been?
shao_khan
nah - it was 6. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dixonpj/annispec.htm
allanon_1980
so my buddy went back to the stealer and they convinced him that it is a 180bhp, even though it says 150bhp on the tax disk and it has only 5 gears. Stealer said he was going to get him written confirmation that it was 180bhp, and that it wasnt chipped !!!
RedRobin
....We shan't be holding our breath! Stealers will say anything.

And if he does convince your friend, get it rolling roaded to see just what power it does have...
SMB
Given the 180bhp model wasn't available in 2000, i woul dhave thought insurance would be an issue, and I would question how you can sell a car clearly a 150BHP model, and claim it's not chipped
Soundwave
Any update on this thread? Did you hear back from the stealer?
