RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] I think you have already made your mind up Red Robin, but you are currently in a stage of denial. What options are you going to go for. [/ QUOTE ] ....I've always worn my heart on my sleeve!! I think you are right, I would bet on myself going for it too, particularly as the Mk5 R32 may be viewed as an upgraded version of the GTI rather than such a totally different car. BUT, my final decision depends on test driving the .:R and how she FEELS. To be honest, I do anticipate wanting one and I have already investigated the costs including sale of my GTI and insurance etc. so, of course, I know which options I would be choosing IF. Rather than spend time listing them now, I'll come back later, but I would def include DSG and cloth Recaros and sunroof....And probably a Milltek exhaust to better hear that glorious V6 sound I would have spent all that extra money on getting!! I must say that my Hi-flow straight through Milltek Quads on my GTI delivers probably the finest 4-pot sound you could hear. I've always been easily seduced by a fine exhaust note! Ladies, you've been told! And yes, nicks3, I have indeed been warned!
xscreamsuk
Red Would the sunroof be for auditory purposes? I have a sunroof on the XC90, but don't think I've ever opened it, but then we don't get sun up here anyway.
RedRobin
No, my first sunroof was my 1989 Beemer and I've always loved them (and disliked cabs/convertibles). I've hung out in parts of the world with hot climates and strongly believe in shade! It's the same reason I always wear baseball caps and (prescription) eye shades. The Mk5 Golf sunroof is one of the very best cos it's got minimal wind noise and no draught and has a useful variety of settings. I use it primarily for ventilation and occasionally waving at people!!
scillyisles
Done over 400 miles in the R32 now including a 210 mile drive this afternoon. The Recaros are very comfortable and I can recommend them for comfort and support. They do look special and everyone who's seen the car has commented on them. ashleywater
Hi Nick! Just a line to agree with you on your test drive observations, particulary in relation to the DSG box and your comparisons with the gti, the gti is a great car, but I have to say the new MK5 R32 is a very quietly, understated, solitaire diamond of a car I think JC actually summed the car up rather well, with no real fanfare & fireworks: It really, really is a good car........... DSG is excellent in a gti, but with this engine,it is an absolute riot!!!! the more I drive this car, the more I appreciate how bloody good it is, at everything you ask of it. It really does do everything, very, very well........

pb06
Does anyone have recaros in a 3 door? Can you tell me if they slide as well as tilt? What is the access into the rear like? Looks like it might be tight due to the size of the seat.
jimmyp
Welcome pb06, i'm quessing that the seats will be similar to that of the "original" R32, and they do tilt and slide forward and the access is pretty good as the Konig seats arn't exactly small. GTiMK5
The recaros do tilt and slide in a similar way to the standard. It is not tight IMO.
ashleywater
Well after sampling the delight's of the new recaros, would'nt have them on a 3dr, as the access mechanism and clearance into the back is nowhere near as good as the Koenigs were........ Cant understand why they did'nt use Koenigs on the new car? Probably cost too much............... But there again if are buying a 3 not a 5 door, then passengers are not a priority!!! Well this post makes perfect sense............. not!
