dmg11eng
In my manual it says Quattro A3's have a 60L tank in comparison to 55L tank of the 2WD models, however on two occasions now I've had 20 miles showing left on the trip computer and only managed to fit just under 53L worth of fuel in. How much can you 2WD and Quattro people fill up with respectively?? My car is 2006MY TDI Quatttro.
harddrive
I have a quattro A3 and ran mine down so it only had 25 miles left in the tank yesterday. The car took about 53L of optimax to fill.
Booster
I've managed 56 litres but it had been showing 0 miles on the DIS for ages .
Wallachie
[ QUOTE ] I've managed 56 litres but it had been showing 0 miles on the DIS for ages . [/ QUOTE ] Can running out of fuel do any damage to your car?? I've heard that if you run a turbo diesel car dry, you sometimes have to bleed the fuel pump or something, not exactly sure?? I've been caught out in the S3 numerous times, and having to drive with 0 miles showing on the DIS, always been worried that if I run out of fuel I could cause harm to the engine. doogal1972
I think that running dry in a diesel is seriously bad, but I don't think that is the case for petrol cars. I can't get more than 56 litres in my S3 although the capacity is supposed to be 62 litres.
d3fy
it aint 60ltr, unless it hides 5ltr that DIS does not see
ChriS3
Be careful if you still have the old sparkplugs, the ones that should have been recalled. Running too low on fuel seems to be the nail in the coffin for these plugs, it's not a problem to fix, just replacement plugs. It's happened twice to me now, first time they only replaced the one plug, second time they replace the lot.
Drillslinger
Not sure about the 8P but the Quattro 8L does indeed have a 62L tank (in which I managed to fit 65l ) The DIS range is an APPROXIMATE range based on a few readings, the ones I can remember are (naturally) fuel level and throttle position (IIRC there's something else). I've ran out of gas with 50kms showing and I've managed to drive 10kms with 0 showing (That's where I got the 65l in)
doogal1972
I've not had my DIS below 5miles left and still couldn't get anymore juice in it than the 56l. Drillslinger, you sure you didn't put 3 litres on the forecourt floor?

Booster
I didn't run out of fuel. Just the DIS said I had! As stated above, it is over cautious (for obvious reasons).
doogal1972
And I bet it costs you about 10p or something stupid to fill up your motor if you're stateside. Man, we get shafted big style here for fuel!
Drillslinger
Wouldn't say 10p, but your Gov't DEFINATELY takes a bigger chunk I pay around the US nat'l average over here and it's something like $2.75 per gallon. Germans are paying €1.55 per liter
doogal1972
Yeah, I was a little over the top with the 10p! I'm paying 98p a litre for optimax which I think is similar to the German prices? I'd be happy to run the S4 with it's 4.2 V8 on your prices but here, no way!! I do too many miles! It's crap when you can't buy the car you want cos of stupid fuel prices. Thanks Blair you tw@t!
