TP27
If I was going to buy one (through eBay) for the R32 and it's a UK based seller, what kit should I make sure is included in the sale? Thanks.
mb
Hi - all you should need is a GPS antenna (you can buy these afterwards) loom should plug straight into the MkV And heres how to install it http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/170547/ShowPost.aspx Though the antenna should be located below the dash (amke sure it isn't below metal so it still gets signal though) Cheers Martin
TP27
Thanks Martin. The HU has the antenna but no 2006 version disk. I'm making enquiries ! What amazes me is how east it is to get hold of this Sat-Nav unit (for less than £850) when VW charge nearly £2k for it Factory Fitted !!! TP. mb
The after marketones are often refurbs but it is still a massive saving I bought mine (MkIV) from this guy last year [email protected] Simon seems to give the pricing & Peter works out the payment details so he may be worth a try (mine came with antenna & CD & was in a "just used" condition). The CDs are 90 here so make sure you allow for this - http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/nav_cdrom2.asp (please do check this is for your unit !!!!) TP27
Thanks Martin. I have contacted Bluespot and also spoken to my dealer on the antenna question to see if the VW "Shark-Fin" antenna can be retro fitted too (Part Number 1FO 035 507 A). I'll keep you posted on this 'project'. TP.

Thanks. [/ QUOTE ] I got one off Ebay - usual rules apply about checking feedback. There are a couple on there that are based in the UK and offer collection.. Make sure you get the unit, code, internal GPS aerial and disk. More often than not sellers will include a 'back-up' disk with the unit rather than the original.... [/ QUOTE ] All of the code, antenna etc is included but as you say, the disc is a back-up and I'm trying to source a 2006 'real' disc ! Also, the instruction manual has had to be downloaded, I don't have the VW manual for the glovebox! TP.
mb
Hi TP - let me know how you get on please ! Re your posts - Backup discs can still be backed up so it is not quite as bad as it sounds - the age is more important as natch this affects the mapping Manual - vagparts sell manuals for the previous version so may be able to source - they are complicated things and without one you will only use 10% of the features opposed to 20% if you read the manual - they are pretty straight forward though if you buy a foreign one make sure you have the instructions to change the language on hand unless your German is very good (how I laughed after spending the morning installing mine (my R32 had canbus & MFD doesns't s o install was more "involved" then yours will be) it started up in German ! Aerial - this is probably a good idea as I sometime lose satellite fix with mine (the newer versions will be better for this and it doesn't usually get "lost" as it uses speed pulse from the car) I was thinking of installing an oem aerial then running the wire to a reradiating antenna in the C pillar to boost the under dash antenna - saves running the cable through the entire car. I would try with antenna under the dash first though as mine has had this problem 1 or 2 times in a year. HtH Martin
